This post has made me absolutely livid.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

My drivers window went down but would not go back up, it was pi$$ing with rain and the Mrs was about to go into hospital to have the baby.  I had no choice but to go to the local stealers.

They said I needed a new module which is basically the block of four switches that sits on the drivers door.  They phoned me and told me it will be £990.    I nearly fell off the chair.  How can a window switch cost a grand?    They said its about £725 for the part and labour to remove the old and fit the new.  They then called back after 10 minutes to say that there will be an additional 2 hours labour to program it.!!!!

I feel well and truly robbed.!!!!

To make matters worse, the car was covered by extended warranty until a few months ago and I complained about a rattly switch back then and they said warranty doesn't cover rattles.!!!

I bought this car coz I love it but only the wife drives it and she's just as happy in a Honda, I'm so damn tempted to go Japanese!!!!  Its left me very bitter.

Simply red, that's disgraceful .. Don't wish to rub it in, you really were robbed, if it was the switch that was the problem, the same as mine , it's a 2 minute job for even a novice like me, and there was certainly no re-programming involved .. All sounds very wrong to me,

Wayne

Was this on an E53? Switches do not need reporgramming, and it takes no more than 7minutes to change over. you could go jap, but then that would be quite mundane.

I can understand anger if facts - as said the d.i.y. fix mentioned here is for E53 models.

I would not let my experience with one dealer make me switch brands.........I have had mixed dealer experiences with Japanese cars too, ( not owned a Honda which are generally regarded as relatively reliable).
