Mine doesn't seem to do it if the A/C is on.

I don't think he is.

E39's often suffered similar problems lurching from 2nd to 1st when coming to a stop. With the A/C on, the slightly higher tickover revs actually smoothed out the down changes. ...

Or he might be taking the p*ss... :)
