Xs on 20s summer rubber are shit in the snow and bordering on dangerous as 2.5t is a lot to catch when it starts sliding.
Have to admit I've never had any real problems running the X on summer tyres in the winter months/snow.
You probably don't get real snow up there!
I got stuck on the flat whilst picking up my frigging Chinese (food!) a few years ago!
Snow is quite bad up these ways but maybe its just I can drive better than you LOL
I've run the M5 through snow with no issues except for when about 15 metres from the drive due to the incline which used to stop me dead. But the X has been superb and very sure footed.

I live near Aberdeen and we do get proper winters. I'm also out quite a bit with the dog and a camera so tend to end up going daft places.
I think a set of snow tyres may well be on the cards!
I had intended to keep the Q7 until march as I have a spare set of wheels with winter tyres fitted, but of course I didn't do that....

Should have kept the Q7 until March but you already knew that.................
How did that fair in the snow?

The Q7 was fine in snow up to about a foot deep (worst I found) with the smaller winter tyres fitted, not much use with the 20" summer wheels though!
I honestly didn't intend to change the car so soon, but then I got into the X6 and common sense went out the window. Of course they had a 40d coming in at a reasonable price.
I'm bad for this sort of thing, the X6 will be car number 16. I'm 36. I understand that a lot of people have had many more cars but I'm actually trying to avoid changing them so often!

Sorry to OP dont want to hijack your thread but the mention of all those cars you've had got me counting my car ownership history.
I've had 17 uptill now and a few years older.

A friend of mine is currently looking at Q7's and X6's will keep an eye on your posts to see how they compare.
What colour is you X6?
If you don't mind me asking did you lose much on the Q7? Any serious problems?

The Q7 is a far more relaxed drive compared to the more aggressive X6 (and BMW in general), but I find it exhausting to drive long distances in as it's too remote. I also don't find the seats to be very comfortable, although passengers love it and it's massive in the back.
Handling is more soft and boaty, engine is more coarse but delivered reasonable power.
No real problems, the trim is surprisingly fragile and I destroyed the front brakes in 18 months, mainly due to driving it like a gti.
The Q7 is much older than the X6 so has lost less than I will with the BMW.

I think that sums up perfectly the Q7
Found the facelift a massive improvement over the non FL
I also think the Audi V6 sounds nicer than the BMW straight 6
I also preferred the BMW box
