Not yet, but I have a pre-Microsoft E71.  New versions are on the way following BMWs tie up with MS so it could still be an issue to come.... :'(

Yep it does..

Be careful when activating components for testing.....
Filling the unit with fuel causes an immense smoke screen when you run the burner up!!!!
Admittedly it was quite impressive once the panic wore off!!!

Is there a guide on the forum as to the most effective way of removing the entire Webasto unit with minimal coolant loss - plus how does the exhaust disconnect?

exhaust - just wiggle it out after removing all the screws and loosening and/or removing the hoses, its just pushed in.

In the course of your Webasto PhD studies did you determine:-

1. Whether the Webasto fan setting off on vehicle wake-up indicates a fault, and if so would the PCB be the suspect?

2. If only the glow plug is faulty, what happens when you try to start the heater - i.e. summat or absolutely nowt?

Whilst walking back to the MOT station he other day, I got out my mobile, gave the car a quick call, low and behold a nice toasty X (and a slightly bewildered tester) awaited me.  GSM works a treat

Onlything is if the car is not in use the gsm contributes about 60mah towards battery drain!

I will check that, but as I keep mine on a CTEK it doesn't really make a difference to me. 
How much does the Telestart take?

A few mA at a guess, probably less than 5 on standby and perhaps 200mA whilst switching - so momentary.  It was the switch unit type used OEM - albeit an earlier model - so I don't imagine BMW would have gone for excessive consumption.

Hi - I seem to have the same Webasto issue as you're experiencing on my 55 plate 3.0d (fan activation each time the car receives a signal). Unfortunately, I've not been able to determine a cause through testing, so assume it's the PCB... If you find a cure, I'd appreciate it if you can let me know, as apart from sending the PCB off to Germany in the hope that it cures the problem (a possibility), or buying a complete used unit, then I've run out of ideas. (Either option is looking more attractive by the day, as the mornings are getting colder!)

Can anyone confirm that you can remove the PCB from the Webasto and continue to use the car?

Followed his guide & replaced 1 capacitor & 1 resistor on the PCB, fitted to the car & it fired up! I'm chuffed to bits. 80pence in components & it's running. Mine had the symptoms of every time a door was opened etc the air fan would fire up but nothing else.
Fortunately I completed an apprenticeship in electronic engineering so can follow my way round a PCB quite well.
I'm happy to help anyone down to component level if anyone wishes

Stevejspm - Good news! (although, as a civil Engineer this repair is probably beyond my skill set!). I do have a friend who has a background in this sort of thing though... Thanks for the info.

Does that mean you are nice to people, rather than a normal engineer (Telecoms for me) where you can be as grumpy as you like....  >:D
