Condor, I do believe we've had this conversation before. You like paying through the nose to have your AUC car, warranty and dealer servicing rates. I'm not.

Nobody is wrong or right. Just different.
[/quote]

My my, getting a bit personal then, Denis O?  FWIW, I am not "paying through the nose" for the warranty, its reasonable IMO from my financial perspective.  I suppose 535dboy, pvr and X5sport are also "paying through the nose" then, as they chose to buy brand new cars and not privately sourced used ones with no warranty?

No need to attack others just because their choices are not in line with yours.

Sy4.8is - hope it all works out for you, I know its the principle of things, but the law is a strange thing, not sure you will have a lot of luck demanding new items when they can supply used ones in good condition, like the rear load cover- if that went to small claims, I am pretty sure you would fail in the demand for a new one over a used one.  Still, don't let it tarnish your experience of the car too much - life is too short for some of these battles.

And I'm also about to buy the BMW Extended Warranty.  Why?  Because these cars cost a fortune when they break, I need the transport and having just been made redundant I need the added protection.  Add the unreliability of my E53 and poor experiences with WD plus the poor reports of customers who went down the Warrantywise road, and the BMW package seems a 'safer' though potentially more expensive choice.

Life choice as they say.  That and it's my money..... :)

Why buy new?  All my cars since 1998 have been new.  I was fed up with 2nd hand cars with nothing but problems and Dealers who didn't care.  I got the car with the toys I wanted and had three years of being able to chuck it back to any Dealer with the message "Fix It!!".  Again my choice to live with...... :).  It even has round exhausts - much to pvr and 535dboy's amusement  :P

Ain't life fun.... :))

..........and unless I win the lottery, I'm too close to retirement to buy another new BMW unless it's a base 1 series.... :P

I come from a school of thought where a deal is a deal. They only has to discuss a change to the deal beforehand. And to put a product on the car they know I dislike is taking the pi55. Add to that that they haven't apologized for changing the deal without discussion and haven't done a thorough AUC check. - a headunit screen intermittently switching off and a non standard nav disc.....these things aren't hard to spot....(missing load cover aside) there wasn't even an invoice in the paperwork he gave me....that had to be posted out afterwards.....if you saw the email from the sales rep and saw how unapologetic he was....my impression is sloppy poor customer service....I feel aggrieved.....and on that basis I will push for new items.....but yes I agree this thread is too long!

Don't get me wrong, the car is lovely, and emotions are not running high, but if something is not quite right, I look at how I can address this and what can be made of the situation.

Quite what was personal about suggesting you pay through the nose when buying via AUC, I don't know. It's a fact that you will pay more (through the nose) via AUC than and indy or privately. The "benefit" of "paying through the nose" is that the experience and back up from the dealer network is 2nd to none. Considering this thread, started by Sy4.8is, was explaining that in his experience the 2nd to none bit was sadly lacking then I consider my points more than valid.

And of what relevance to this thread is people buying brand new cars. The thread is about AUC cars and the clue is what "U" stands for in the acronym. I guess the guys you mention bought new, direct from the dealer, because they couldn't find anyone else to sell them a brand new BMW, FFS.

Please re-read the last sentence of my post. It's about choice.

My my, got up on the wrong side again have you?  You do like to have a personal go for no reason other than your apparent dislike of BMW dealerships and the AUC scheme and warranty.  I will say this again, your obnoxious tone in repeatedly saying I do anything "through my nose" is absolutely unacceptable - the inference is that I am stupid and easily led, which couldn't be further from the truth.    I haven't insulted, you so its really not necessary to be offensive and insult me repeatedly either.  And the thread is not about the AUC warranty actually, but about a specific BMW main dealer failing to include a load cover with an AUC purchased from them, and providing 10 months tax instead of 12 and a fake sat nav disc.    Not exactly warranty issues. If they were dealbreakers, OP could have walked away from it, but due to circumstances (distance travelled) continued the purchase and is trying to sort it out. Not all dealers behave like this and it doesn't mean that purchasers of used BMWs from main dealers are all stupid and "pay through the nose" as you continue to repeat, offensively.

FWIW its definitely about choice, but no need to be offensive about people who select different choices to you.  This is usually a great forum and its a pity you feel the need to slag someone off repeatedly and make offensive remarks just because their choice is not the same as yours.  One can disagree without becoming nasty.

Chill, boys..

Each to their own. Ppl make different choices. No 2 ppl think exactly alike.

That's what makes this world such an interesting place. If not, imagine- all cars in the world would be exactly the same!

Ps

Sorry Condor. Fell asleep after "my my".

I'll now excuse myself from this thread as you're obviously incapable of understanding what I've written and anyway, arguments of this kind on internet message boards are completely futile and a waste of time.

Hi,

Back to the question..................My experience of buying a used car from a main agent (AUC) is a negative one. The last 2 used X5's I bought were both from main dealers and both were horrible experiences and very negative. I should have learnt the first time, but thought my experience was a one off bad one. I was mistaken.
The first one had issues agred to be fixed that were not fixed and a missing phone which was over £500 to replace.  After a load of agro and calling BMW assist 4 times I got them done eventually but took an awful lot of wrangling and once they have your money they don't care is my experience.
The second time I was sold a car with many pre-existing issues and lets not go into how long it took to sort that one out.
As for distance selling law, good luck enforcing/getting retribution with all that. Its all well and good in principle but the reality and having to live it day to day is unbelievably stressfull and an uphill battle. I had a clear case and still couldn't send the car back.
In both cases I can tell you BMW UK were completely disinterested. Total waste of time.
Hence now if the car is not as described and as agreed I walk away. No exceptions.
As for non bmw sat nav disk. I can confirm that if you have a problem with your nav, BMW Warranty will NOT pay to have your nav fixed as it has a non bmw disk in it. Been there and have the t-shirt on that one.
Load cover is standard and should come with the car. They know that. Not including one is unacceptable unless it was pointed out at point of sale that the car would be supplied without one.
Super guard is a waste of time and money IMHO.

I understand the remarks about distance travelled,  sale of goods act , etc etc, but having been through this one twice I would have walked away and sent them a bill for my travelling expenses. Thats just from my personal experience.
I tried to buy a new X5 from my local dealer and you just dont know how difficult it was. In the end ,  I went out of my way to find an Independant BMW main agent ( one thats family owned and only had 1 dealership ) not a chain ( like Sytners/coopers etc etc ) and I can tell you I had very different experience. I got good service there.
I hope you resolve your issues and you end up with the car you thought you bought.

Good luck,
regards,
Nat.

Sy, I would say for sure try for new items due to the circumstances, but as stated, they are not under obligation to provide as such. If you are not getting anywhere with the dealer (have you tried the dealer principle?), then go through BMW GB. I'm sure the result will work out.

As for experiences, I have bought nearly every car I've owned from a distance greater than at least 100 miles away. And plenty have been from main dealers and I can gladly say I've always had a very good experience with all of them (including after sales too). I've done the deal over the phone including a decent discount on most and have been pleased with the outcome. My 530d had a little paint peel on one of the alloys a few weeks after ownership and the dealers gladly paid for me to get it refurbed properly by a local refurbishers, with no quibble. Even got them to spray a set of genuine M5 mirrors I bought for it for a very cheap price and they covered the shipping back to me.

Maybe I have been fortunate with all my experiences but maybe it's because I am a nice person…..LOL.

Hi,

Always good to hear that people have had good experiences.
Maybe we should have a recommended dealers/service section on the board+ a name and shame section for those that should be avoided.
For sure I have read plenty of posts asking for good places to go to have work done as not everyone is/wants to be hands on.
Just a thought.

Regards,

Nat.

a point to add is that recently looking at the auc cars they are not over priced especially 3 series cabs some of them are actually cheaper than indy dealers etc
