Have a look at this video first.  It's a tear-down of that unit.  900A from that little battery seems a bit optimistic to me at least...although it might do it for a second or three

Is there something that you can plug in straight in the mains and jump from there?

My power pack battery does not hold its charge anymore and I would just like to plug something in the mains and use that instead rather than buying another portable unit.

We've got something similar to this at work
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... ttery    .....needed it when we had the 7.5t as we hardly ever used it.

you could probably get away with something like this though
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... ne-starter

I just keep a set of heavy duty leads in the boot........even if you dont need them they are always useful for helping other people out

Thanks for that, I could not find that on Google but the last one looks like the one I would need indeed.

i like that too, only question with this plus what  lummox sent really is - is 200A CCA enough to turn our motors, like x5sport had also said? for instance the bosch S5s are in the range of 700A to 800CCA..

200CCA might turn the starter on the bench and assist a partly charged battery, but that's all..... ;)

I will have to get the scales out when I get home but I can say the jump starter managed to start my X after it had stood for 6 weeks and the battery didn't have the life in it to work the central locking or interior lights, when I put the key in there was just nothing and to be honest I was a little sceptical myself but it did manage it.
