Dealer called me today and we had a good chat, he'd joked with his dealer principal about the dodgy car he sold me - apparently it had had a windscreen stone chip repair so that was worth knowing. They'd had it repaired by their repairer. He offered for me to take it back and they'd repair it again but given that the repairer had said they can't repair a repair and the distance I'm not going to take them up but appreciated the gesture. He reminded me that he'd explained that the car had done motorway miles mainly and had picked up this chip.
How unlucky for us to have had a chip in exactly the same place - we've never had a windscreen chip before as far as I can recall and do low mileage. I'm wondering if it was a crap repair. Anyway he's of the view that I should get insurers to replace it. My concern is that somewhere in the policy it will state that it has to be repaired at their choice of garage and they'll get out of it being done by BMW that way. We'll see, will be calling them tomorrow.....

Well, a week after this discussion I will have to have the call with Admiral as a stone made a massive chip in the windscreen now.
How did you get on with Admiral on this one?

New screen to be fitted next week when I am back in the UK by dealer.
£750 ex vat quoted, Admiral is paying as I mentioned to them that their National Screens can not fit it

That figure sounds about the same as the E53 one, but it was that with VAT back in 2006.
Good result though. I must book the X6 in for its new rear screen - three elements now peeling off.

Not sure if they understood me entirely, I said that the guy from National Windscreens had said he could not fix it (the previous chip), they took it as "fit it" and as I had tried to use NW, they approved the fitting by BMW.
If you go direct to the dealer, you have to pay yourself ...
Must be my accent

I too had to pay up front and claim back (from Aviva). I did insist on them providing a letter/email confirming I could go ahead, and provide a claim number so there were no 'difficulties'.
Got the refund cheque back within a week on both occasions.

Oi ... are you on the tablets again? >:(
Mrs PVR even brought me some Porker 911 books back from London the other day
Can't call them brochures as they are real books or some reason.
Just trying to work out the millions of options described in there ... :'(

That's because Porsche are proper cars therefore you get proper stuff.
Even the accessory brochure is hard backed
I've had a sizeable chip in both the Porsche for a year and the lotus for three years.
Haven't been bothered to get them done and they've got no worse.
It will only happen again anyway!
