Well here's an update.  I've been driving in manual mode for the last 800 miles and no errors, but took it into bristol transmissions today to have it looked at & see why the EDS3 solenoid was throwing up an error.  They have dropped the sump and it's full of metal, so the gearbox needs replacement/recon.  They have quoted £1900 + VAT.  Does that sound par for the course?  Has anyone used or have any feedback on either of these Ebay ones, both of which are considerably cheaper?

Any other recommendations?  I need to make a decision by the morning on what to do with it.

Thanks
Murf

My transmission rebuild three years ago was £2,200 incl VAT, 17.5 hours of labour and a 12 month warranty.  That was a total rebuild.  If you want a reference, BMW want £7k for a box and they don't rebuild them!

They have offered a discount and are now doing it for £1710 + VAT which is better than the first quote.  Also includes 12 months unlimited mileage warrantly.  At least I know it will be done properly, the Ebay ones look a bit dodgy to me.
