Think I've debadged every vehicle I've owned, love the cleaner lines 

I think do which ever YOU prefer, after all who gives a... what others think, and as said anyone who doesn't know its an x5 will be in some Korean box anyway so whos bothered

De-badged, it's the way ahead.

And (possibly a controversial comment coming up) if you remove the rear number plate you should have a sticker with the chassis number on it between the 2 holes for the number plate screws. If the stickers not there, well, it might mean there's been a bump, BUT, it might not too! Not sure if that's helpful or not...............

Ooh that's interesting where did you get that info from?

Going to be fitting my private plate to the new toy on Monday so will test your theory with  of course

Now I'm worried I won't have a sticker  :doh:

Do they just pull off with ease? Dont want to do it and end up left with a horrible mark!

I did try to word my post to avoid controversy. It's not meant to cause worry. I have had several BMW's most 'approved used' and because I'm a sad OCD type, I like to clean behind my number plates! I have therapy, and counselling for my weird cleaning habits! Still on all my BMW's dating back to my E34 5 series from 1993 they all have the sticker under the number plate at the rear, you sometimes find one at the front too, in the same place!

How many of you will be heading off out into the night with a head torch and a screwdriver to check?

Not me chief.....mine are stuck on (I think they look better without the screws).  I don't remember seeing a label on the E53, E46 or E71.

Funnily enough i taped my rear on last night and mine had the bmw sticker.

Mine were all stuck on until there was a spate of plate thefts in my area. The cars chosen? All ones with easily ripped off plates because they weren't screwed down. Mine were stolen in broad daylight at 4pm.

The garage I bought it from swapped my plates, so I dont know what was under there.
All the HPI checks were OK and I am happy with the back end  :-[ so I am not too bothered if its had a bump, great if not, its bought and paid for if it has so I cant do a lot about it anyway 

But an interesting fact never the less (about the sticker)

Got to say Ant, yours is one of the cleanest looking standard X5's I have seen.

Glad Ruesch has corroborated my sticker story too!

I know mine's there as I'm the same as you in the OCD way! I noticed it when I put my plate on, I've even been known to remove light clusters to clean properly
