Thanks for the moral support.
Owned 7 years since 59k now covered over 110k.
Not needy cars at all - it's just that sometimes they benefit from some tlc.
Off the top of my head mine has had..........2 rocker gaskets, PCV hoses, header tank, thrust bushes, rear subframe bushes, tailgate catch, mirror motor, 2 mirror glasses, PAS hose, 2 x rear window regulators, window controller switch, radio module, door lock mechanism, 2 mirror glasses, water pump, thermostat, auxillary fan, PAS pump, alternator, 2 batteries, 2 FSR's, header tank breather, various belts , steering sensor, lambda sensor, 2 outer front CV boots, some belts, a couple of hoses, stabiliser links, windcreens x 2, Xenon bulbs, plus other usual consumables like fluids, filters, discs, pads, tyres, blades & of course regular servicing sundries.
It would be fair to say I have a good idea as to what these things need to keep them healthy.
I would have missed out on so much fun if I had stayed with Japanese cars.

Surely not.............merely a few character building characteristics of ownership.
Fair to say mine has been better maintained than some others.
As for buying used - the older these get the more important it is to inspect carefully.

I agree tbh I was just joking, my first x5 was a killer with things going wrong (2001) the second one (2005) was perfect, tbh I think the parts for x5s are very reasonably priced and im so glad I only pay labour on the odd specialist job! as that's what drives the costs up massively

Was that a typing error or an attempt at humour ?

depends on where you get them, ive always tried the cheap ebay parts and so far they've been excellent quality, even got half the forum onto the £50 per pair drive shafts!!

That's fine if the quality is good.
I couldn't find a sensibly priced new & good quality PAS pump for sensible money anywhere. I posted the list price earlier..............Oh well - Salvage item on the way.

big things like pas pump I would go salvage oem, but bushes, balljoints, wishbones, discs, pads driveshafts ive always had great success with the cheap versions

Happy to use other then OE if well known brands or on back of valued testimonials.
Sure there can be some deals to be done but, (generally speaking), I personally am yet to be convinced that E53 parts are good value albeit glad you have had good experiences.
As for the PAS pump it took multiple calls to source correctly...............I generally avoid subscribed part finder sites unless really pushed.

Ha ha. I have found to my cost the inspections can be misleading. As one of my previous father in laws said at my wedding
What food puts women off sex?
Wedding cake!
He wasn't bloody wrong there either.
She was dispatched in less than a year!!!

Car is back..........
New alternator, replacement PAS pump, new tensioner, belt & thermostat, (not related to failure).
Happy with work done & relative charges albeit another unwanted X5 repair bill.
Really not feeling it at the moment >:D
