The dreaded 'smart casual' event
Re: The dreaded 'smart casual' event
Just bung a few bits of Ralph on and you'll be fine m8
Re: The dreaded 'smart casual' event
I feel comfortable in jeans and more casual clothing and am actually really glad that fashion, in general, is moving to a less formal style - less ties etc. Don't have to think too hard about it.
It's why issues like this cause the cogs to grind to a halt!

I wear suits to work mainly but not tie but in fact it is sometimes nice to wear a tie - not socially though.

Re: The dreaded 'smart casual' event
Smart casual normally means, please don't turn up in a t shirt/shorts or trainers, but that's about it really.
And obviously the mankini is a no no.

Or a football top..
Re: The dreaded 'smart casual' event
Ties are a must. I wear one everyday to work albeit a skinny one paired with a tie pin.
But where has this laziness come from? When i was growing up my old man wore a tie every day regardless of whether or not he was seeing clients.

Re: The dreaded 'smart casual' event
Ties have their place, but they are not a must. If my clients don't wear them, I won't - I don't want to embarrass them.
You father lived in a different age - maybe he wore a trilby too or sometimes a flat cap? Times change and so do fashions and people's expectations. Dressing differently to your parents is not necessarily laziness. Dressing differently to your peers might be sloppiness or perhaps thoughtless.
IMHO a classic, navy single-breasted suit, with 2 buttons and a crisp white double-cuffed shirt but no tie, would look a lot smarter than a "fashion" suit (top shop/burton etc) with a "trendy" tie
Huck, what have you started?!
