Rossco,

I work offshore, central north sea as a Toolpusher, I am sorry to say mate that the industry is way behind the times with regard to hiring people, You can't get offshore without experience and you can't get experience without going offshore. Have you tried Rowan Drilling? they are one of the very very few companies that will hire people without experience. The only other options you have are pestering the agencies and hope (don't take this the wrong way mate) they are desperate as that is the only way they will take on inexperienced personnel.
Check your PMs mate.

Craig

No, I'm not expected to pay for the course so all good there, (IF I get selected).

The agencies tell me to contact drilling companies for entry level and the drilling companies say my best bet is to get in touch with the agencies!!! A friend who used to work for Rowan has given me a few OIM email addresses and Ive sent them a few emails, but I dont get much of a reply. I just hope someone will give me an opportunity soon.

I checked my PM's and I dont have any?!?!?!?

Sorry only just spotted this, timing is a big thing in getting offshore, its almost time for the usual big work scope window of summer shutdowns, so the CVs you've sent out could be about to pay off.
keep them going as there are usually a lot of new guys over the summer and build up.

Rossco,

I have a several mates doing rig work, they all struglled with the catch 22 of experience!

One mate, did all the courses, and did much the same as you, he emailed, wrote letters, and made phione calls, he got the same responses as you! Eventually he packed his bag, jumped in his car, drove from Lincolnshire to Aberdeen, booked himself into a travelodge, and visited as many of the oil companies and agencies as he could on a daily basis, they got pretty pissed off with him, but persistance paid off, on the Thursday one of the agencies had a no show, and Russ (my mate) was there badgering for work at the time, he got a start, and then spent several years with the agency, doing lots of shitty jobs, all over the place. He kept at it, went from 'Roustie' to 'Roughneck' (not sure what that all means! And eventually got full time work with one of the big petrolium companies. If you're single, keen, and really want the work that bad, that would be my suggestion, go up to the Granite City, and start knocking on doors!

I will email another guy based close to Dundee who is fulltime in the North Sea for somebody and is quite senior on the drill head, and see if he can possibly open any doors for you. Expect a negative, but I will certainly ask.

The very best of luck!

I'm afraid I'm not single but I am deffo keen and deffo want the work so that would be greatly appreciated!! I'm only an hour away from Aberdeen and I have gone around some of the companies and agencies before when I have been up doing the courses but still had no luck. I'm confident my persitance will pay off. I just hope its sooner rather than later.......
