My 2005 3.0d had its 3rd oil change recently and the indy i used todl me that i need this part changing, but they didnt have it in stock so i need to take it back in. He qutoed £220parts and labour which includes breather value, air filer and fuel filter.
Does this sound about right?

I would say that sounds ok as the parts would be around the £100 mark and there is a bit of time/labour involved in getting at them.

Sounds about right but why dont you do it yourself and put the £120 in your pocket.

I changed mine today along with the filter and it was the updated version...my build date was August 04 so either mine has been upgraded(which i don't think so to my knowledge) or perhaps x mans was replaced by an older version..... strange!x man wrote ..... @ pvr the build date on my x5 is march 2005 and it did not have the modified breather filter fitted to it,
so not sure when in 2005 the modified filters were fitted.
I was expecting mine to be the older type.
@ Bazzyboy you mentioned the two part numbers in your op so i only bought one being the new housing assembly with filter(as i thought i had the old one)had i thought that i had the new one i obviously would have only ordered the other part.
As for the other part 11127799366 for £19 i take it that is the seperate plastic part with two holes in the top (in x mans picture)....sorry for the lame question but if that is the filter and not the other round part that is part of the housing then it means i have a spare upgraded filter housing.

someone may have changed the breather already, some good dealers do advise them
u could sell the upgrade part to someone on the forum & they then only need to buy the filter

Two 13mm nuts iirc and the whole assembly slides forward and out and then you can get access to the allen bolt at the rear

I'm just about to go in the garage and do exactly the same job ...again
