I did the mod by fitting E39 bayonet bulb holders in place of the spade bulb holders. Then removed the headlights, split them with hot airgun and fitted AE's, then got the dremel out and fettled the shell for the bayonet holders to fit(sealed them in.)
Whilst I was at it I sprayed the black plasic inner silver (to match the car paint) and also covered the sidelight hole with a piece of chrome tape.
Made a great job.
There were photos on the old site and am waiting for the next meet when Mitch will induct me into the black art of photo posting.
