That's why it's a 'glass half full' type of day.

Lucky you. I did get out about ten to get fuel for the generator but once back the drifts just got too big for me to risk it.
The house is like an ice cube as the power has returned but on a very limited setting so the boiler wont fire up and no water as the pumps have been switched off while the electicity guys work on the issues.

Day two.
Still on limited power with no water, so plenty of snow being melted this morning. Just as well we have a gas hob!
A couple of drifts across the drive way up to 3' deep with one drift at the entrance to our drive that's 7' tall. With the continued cold temperature I would say that even with the snow stopping, it could be a few days before the roads clear. ::)
Here's my mobile measuring tool, Mia for reference.

I've taken a couple of short videos on the iPhone for reference. In honesty it doesn't look so bad in the video, but once the snows melted I'll take a comparative video, for as you say they are ones to treasure.
We moved here nearly ten years ago and were told that conditions could be bad here, but this is by far the worst we've experienced.

Day Three.
Well we have the water back today.

even with tonnes off the stuff outside, it's a real pain melting it and having buckets, pots and pans sitting all over the place. I'm also concerned just how long the gas will last as we only use it for cooking normally and just wait for it to run out and then call up for replacement.
Found out why the heatings playing up. Turns out the timing clock has blown, so I've bypassed it to get us some heat, but with the generator running low on fuel it looks like I'll be taking a hike later today to try and get more fuel. ::)
The snows stopped and visibility has increased but the wind and cold weather still remains leaving no sign of the snow going anywhere soon. So I could see us still here on Wednesday or even Thursday before the roads get cleared.

We have fuel! The lad was able to get his car to a crossroads about a mile away where I meet him to collect the Jerry Can. Someone has mabe an attempt to clear the roads close to me, but only really well enough for tractors and hardcore 4x4s. They have even cleared to with-in 50m of my driveway but must have given up once they saw the seven foot high drifts!
The house is starting to defrost and the Sunday fry is cooking so life is indeed good.
