Recently purchased X5
Re: Recently purchased X5
There is only one reason this 'X' was sold by the garage you bought from and not the BMW one, too much preparation to do!!! Sounds at least £2k in the service dept.
I'm amazed you have been so calm. I would have driven it back and told them to give a full refund. The garage you got it from really do need to be talking to you to sort this. All far as dealers not looking after cars after 3 years, I have to disagree but I guess it's all down to the service you get.
I really do hope you get the faults sorted.

Re: Recently purchased X5
Best to stay calm and get the right result, otherwise if I get mad I will loose something
I know I am in the right and the law is on my side, that helps, its just the hassle and I will have to pay for all this in the first instance and get it back later. >:D

Re: Recently purchased X5
Right attitude. Easier to keep focus.
The onus is very much on them given some of the issues described. Plus, I'd ask them what 'checks' they do on the cars they sell.
They're on a sticky wicket, I'd say, and it all depends on how firm you want to be with them - by the sounds of it, you'll hopefully get a decent outcome.

Re: Recently purchased X5
Agreed, however you should take lots of pics of offending items!!! If the dealer is being awkward now in resolving the issues god knows what they will do if you fix everything yourself.
Also if you go down the small claims route, you will need to have shown and documented that the seller was given an opportunity to rectify the issue first. I would throw anymore money at the 'X' until you have heard one way or the other what the dealer is going to do.

Re: Recently purchased X5
I have conducted it all by email so there is no confusion. Its a shame really that people conduct their businesses like this, especially with the internet and feedback etc. All businesses trade on their name, if their name becomes mud, what do they have left????
Re: Recently purchased X5
Exactly, good for you. I'm amazed the main dealer sites would want to be associated with this kind of practice. Sounds like they are struggling to do business and have been forced to set up this off shout business to enable them to give better p/x deals/over allowance. Theres only one thing that leads to >:D

Re: Recently purchased X5
When they / you checked for wear in the linkages was the air suspension still inflated or not??
If it is you will have to release all pressure to check the rest of the bushes. (Basically remove the air pipe feeding the bags)
Wear on the rears usually attributed to worn control arms (top) and rose joint (bottom) which you will NOT see with air suspension pressurised.
I had to do both on mine recently.

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Many thanks
How much did it cost if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Recently purchased X5
approx £60 parts (ebay & Eurocarparts) and a hell of a lot of struggling......
Took approx 3 hours per side as couldn't get the rose joint out very easy, but got there in the end.
Not sure how much a garage would charge as don't tend to use them....
This shows you about the play in the play/no play in the rear:-

Re: Recently purchased X5
My car has done 50,000 miles, is that about right for this problem?
Re: Recently purchased X5
Sorry to hear about the nightmare that you are having TORTUGA.
And i admire your stoical attitude in dealing with this despotic dealer.
Still, your X5 is in good hands with Pip and the boys at Clayton. i've been using them for more that 20 years now, and they'll be servicing my X5 when the dealer warranty expires.
Good luck
