I would say I'm a far better road user in the car since my time on motorbikes. That said I wouldn't encourage others to take up biking unless there was a desire to do so.

I agree you have to be a good driver/rider for the bikes although there are far too many knobs on bikes that take to many risks

My friends that I track the cars with also track bikes and I think that makes the respect the cars dynamics.

Unfortunately far too may knobs on our roads regardless of mode of transport.

Yes but a lot of bad bikers that give the rest of you a bad name such as weaving in and out of traffic unnecessarily.

Totally agree and you would see more of that in your neck of the woods. Same goes for cyclists who do the same. The few give the rest a bad name.

Having started on a CBR600, then on to a Triumph Speed Triple T509, then to a CBR1100XXX Super Blackbird, then bought an Africa Twin for the commute as I didn't want to spoil the Blackbird. I sold the Blackbird to help fund a new car and just after the Twin's engine seized so bought a Suzuki Bandit 1200S.
I must say that the Blackbird was by far the best bike of them all. Easily commutable on, but such a good comfortable and fast machine. Also being a sports tourer, you could get luggage to fit should you want.
I would now definitely look at the BMW GS too as after the fun I had with the twin and the sit up checkable riding position (even with the 750 twin you could give many a sports bike a damn good run for its money on the 25 mile commute).
I don't think you can go too wrong with the BM.

Trouble is I don't ride at the moment following a pretty bad accident that wrote the Bandit off and took me 10 operations and over 6 years to get walking properly again.  Still want another bike though, just don't tell SWMBO.

Sounds like a horrific accident you had, pleased to hear you are much better know.

My problem is sheep!  I don't like to be one. Hence the X6. I love the X5 but around Belfast they are almost two a penny. This is the problem with the GS. I know it's the bike for me that has the comfort and power as well as the ability to be riden hard from time to time. I would even take it on a track day.  But just like the X5, they have become a very popular bike in Northern Ireland.

Returned to the HD dealership today. Not really the bike for me.

I'm not in a hurry and may even wait until next year so plenty of time to look around.

I sold an 06 GSX-r1000 last year, not looking for another bike just yet, but i can see it happening the next 18 months, i do fancy a Ducatti Streetfighter S though..................

I've got my Fireblade sitting in the garage just wish summer would hurry up and get here so I can take her out... I'm getting serious withdrawal symptoms

I spent a little time in a Ducati dealership on Sunday. There multistrada is a serious bit of kit. Certainly worth a test ride.  ::)

I love my bikes, been riding for 30+ years.

I've owned GS's for the last 12 years, and i love them.

Here's my GS Adventure with my BMW S1000RR (now gone)


Replaced the S1000RR with a Ducati Diavel and its a keeper..

Very nice Pope.  I do love the GS Adventure, it's like the 4x4 of the biking world.  The new GS is launched Saturday so I may get along to the party although I don't want a standard GS again, I would rather wait for the new Adventure but that could be years away.  The ducats looked great in the shop but as I intend to use all year round, I would be concerned with reliability.
