Thanks for the welcome messages.

So, I bought from Snows in Portsmouth rather than Fairfields in Southend because I'd seen an AUC I liked on the BMW website, which was in Snows' stock.  I decided against the AUC in the end (I thought the kids would ruin a cream interior) but the sales guy was really helpful and kept in touch, before offering the deal of a lifetime on a car which was in national stock and the options we wanted and more.  I think Snows saw an opportunity to hit targets in an otherwise quite period.  The winter wheels were from Fairfields (and they offered a small discount unlike others).

Good point 5wany re the ML250 and the lack of 3rd row seating.  I like the sound of the new X5 with a 2 litre diesel....shame the new one is so ugly.

Lovely read, your car looks great too.  Interesting comment on the X6, I seem to be seeing more of these in my neck of the woods now.

PeterL  it's just an optical illusion caused by me changing from white X6 40d to black X6 50d in the space of 2 years  :)) :))

Carl at Snows seemed hungrier for a deal than anyone near me and worked hardest to find a deal I couldnt refuse. And the thing is, he'll be the first (probably only) dealer I will call when it comes to trade in time.

Exactly. I'll also go wherever the deal is. The deal was so good on my X6, I'd certainly like to give the salesman at Sytner a shot at making the next deal, before I even consider going elsewhere.

We are getting the 320d from Carl, very keen to do the business as you say. However I have tried to buy our last 5 BMW's form Snows and never got anywear close to doing a deal so went elsewhere ffrom one end of the country to the other  :) Have always given previous dealers a crack at the next purchase but as I always buy late demo/ex BMW cars it is a little more difficult than the new route.

I certainly feel people shouldn't be put off by distance, I travelled from Northern Ireland to the midlands to get the X6.  By far the best deal around at the time.

Benstan, I see you use the Nextbase DVD system.  I also have this as its very practical as I have a second set of them in the other car, allowing the DVD to go with the child regardless of car.  ;)

Indeed. I've been all over the place for my cars and have bought quite a few in Scotland for some reason. Furthest though was Cornwall to collect my C32 AMG, back in 2003.

Whenever we go on a long journey, my kids always laugh that I've either been there to buy or view a BMW!

Not surprised by that Don. I have family in NI and they offen buy over the water and going back a few years from Ireland as well, even if some of the specs were a bit iffy  :o .

Thats the joy of the internet and also buying from main fanchised dealers, pick up the phone do the deal and go and collect.

All this being said it is nice to finally local, and with minimal fuss. Only after the deal was done did I tell him I worked there 10 years ago  :)) The BM took a thump as well as a good friend works for BMWFS  :)
