Got some good news today. They are going to replace all 4 again tomorrow. First set were replaced after 8 months last May.

Got the car back this afternoon with 4 new wheels. Will be extra careful not to kerb the new set and will be having a look online for safe ways to clean them and avoid any of the local jet wash firms and see how this set last.

Didn't actually save any money on wheel repair as I got done by a mobile van for doing 36 in a 30 on the way to the garage last week :-(. Really annoying as I usually stick to the limit in a 30 but this one near the BMW garage (not a built up area) starts on a bend after coming off the bypass and if you don't slow down before passing the sign, they've got you!  The photo showed they'd clocked me 255.5m from the van!

Good to see they're parking the van there to milk the motorist and not catching the people speeding near schools whilst on their mobile (end of rant)

In my experience the diamond cut or polished wheels are always more difficult to keep in good order than the painted versions.  I always use a decent wax polish when they are new and use a wash mit to clean. Some of the wheel brushes that are available are a little to harsh and the twisted wire used to secure the bristles will mark the wheels if not used very carefully. I've recently used iron x to remove the baked on dirt prior to using the wash mit to agitate and then rinse.

Hope this helps

Is there a sealant of some sort that you can get that would seal the pores on the metal and make it easier to clean them?  I know when I bought my X6 the dealer put something like that on the rims.

Something like this Gtechniq stuff perhaps......?

Just come across this and found that 2 of my wheels have gone around the caps however I have curb marks on one of the wheels, are BMW likely to fob me off because of this??

I had all 4 replaced recently for the second time in 18 months and I'd really scuffed one of them quite badly.  As the issue was round the hub it wasn't taken into consideration. The only thing I was asked was whether I always used BMW wheel cleaner.

I assume the answer they wanted was a simple "yes"?

Have Oct 2010 X5 and noticed that 2 of the wheels have a problem in the centre. Have attahed pics and wondered if I am likely to get them replaced or are they too old.
