Thanks for the warm welcome all.

Yes, I was suprised how quickly the GT's I had lined up sold! I'm not in a hurry to buy, spec and colour combination is the most important thing for me to get right. I do like my toys too...

Yes, I've played around on the BMW configurator, I've also modded my C Class quite a bit so I'd prefer to get as much as I can already fitted :)

I know that when my brother specified his E70 X5, he ended up with about £7k of extras (although you'd think some of it should really be standard). From memory he had added; folding mirrors, Xenons, Upgraded alloys (I think 20"), TV Tuner, Wood trim. It all adds up!

Don't get me started on the options, I'm a sucker for them!

The amount spent on the mrs' porker wins so far!

Me too, I could justify most options to myself.

I think I've got about £8k on the RS and I think there was about £14k on the Porsche.

Even the paint on the lotus was £2k iirc !

£11.7k on the M50d - and that comes with a number of standard bits of kit I had paid extra for when fitted to the  previous 40d (eek!)

Welcome aboard. Nice choice you have as I actually like the GT and you're deciding between that and an E70...not jealous....lol.

I think the GT is a good but due to the unfortunate lack of interest in them so good spec and colour combo combined with nice discounted prices as the E70's will be holding better value to the GT.

Of course if you can run a 4.8 then tbh if go with that hands down due to the spec you'll find on them and tbh the noise.

Good luck.

The E53 4.8s sound so much nicer than the E70

Thanks guys.

Raj you're right about the GT, very unusual cars and they've depreciated a lot - however I fear that they still have a long way to drop. My wife's uncle has one and I wouldn't have really considered one otherwise, but having been out in his they're really nice cars. The one I missed out on was a massive spec 530d, it had head up display, rear seat entertainment with Digital TV, 20" wheels, privacy glass etc. Still gutted as it looked unique.

The E70's do appear to hold value quite well, trying to find a nice spec one that has a full BMW history is proving to be harder than I'd initially hoped. Luckily I'm not in a major hurry to buy, although I'm on Autotrader at least a few times a day ;)  I also have some searches saved there and on the BMW AUC site.
I believe the new X5 is due at the end of the year (along with a facelift for the GT).
