Raj, which model Pioneer is that and what wiring modules/extras did you need. I have the basic business radio/CD and no DSP and would like to try and install myself.

It's an AVIC HD1BT bought second hand. Came with the Bluetooth module and an interchanger too. No other modules needed as its all encompassing tbh with satnav, hard drive, etc all built in. I had full DSP and have binned it all off on favour of this and my own speakers, etc.

Thanks Raj. Was it easy to fit and did you have to cut any of the dash up?

Hey guys
I was seriously looking at the Haulingen unit a while ago but brakes and service 2 took priority!
Now I'm back at looking to replace the OEM satnav head unit as the satnav doesnt work and I dont have bluetooth.
I've seen [http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TD714-7-DOUBL ... 3ccd50d279[/url] on Fleabay and I'm quite interested due to the price so I'm quite keen to find out what adaptor harnesses/facia I will need and where to get them. At the end of the day, for 135 quid if it's crap I'll just get a better branded double din unit but I'm not really fussed about keeping the oem appearance as I think it looks a bit 90's anyway.
Regards
Gareth
P.S. Not sure if that hyperlink will work as never used them on here so if it doesnt then it's Ebay item number 261142663801

Gareth,

If you have an iphone then how about something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pioneer-SPH-D ... 27ce20c41b

It lets you run iphone apps on screen so if you have navigation software or even google maps it will run it like a navi software.

Chinese imports are basically you get what you pay for. youl get mixed reviews. sound quality is poor, poor touch screen, poor gps, but then some people are happy too.
Personally i wouldnt as its a waste when there are so many cost effective products out there.

just my 2 cents...

I've had a customs bracket made up to fit it but you can purchase adapter fascia's to do the conversion. I didn't have to cut anything as the aperture for the OE sat Nav unit is large enough.

this is my surround...
its not double din and i dont know where it came from but when i upgrade to double din im going to try and modify it to fit. the colour is a little off but thats mainly camera and light:

Also Raj why dont you try wrapping your surround in this?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carbon-Fibre- ... 3ccd58720e

its glossy so will go with the AC inserts?

Tbh the surround will be replaced with a better version but whatever I wrap it in it won't fully match the ACS trim so I'd rather not try. Also the gloss black matches the door pulls and handles etc.

Cheers though.

I often wondered (for those of us with non screens) why the CD player above the radio could not be removed and a slim sort of pop out screen/player like the above be fitted. Don't think such a thing exists but the flap coming up and a screen emerging would be cool

It kinda does in the newer models - with the completely stealth look and the swivel and flip (Mercs and BMWs - I know of).

No middle-finger references btw!

I too am quite deperate to replace my factory fit sat nav system but the only thing is I dont like the idea of losing the computer options. I know you get the same info up on the dash board but there is no way of resetting anything and also doing the timers for the aux stuff.
I would have thought that one of the bigger companies ie Alpine or Pioneer would have come up with a interface for this.

i think you can keep the functions if you leave the display plugged in. you can re-route to the glove box as you would require the dash space, but you would retain all features...

Factory widescreen unit doesn't have the same seperate module like the single din ones.

You'd need to extend the wires but also purchase the module and redo the wiring as again this is different (I believe).

This has turned into quite an interesting topic. You would think for such a prestige car there would be better plug and play options to retain OBC functions and that the likes of Kenwood and Apline etc accommodate this. Or is it that BMW makes it difficult to change products?

good point actually.. maybe there isn't a sufficient market

its easy enough to make one i would presume because all it has to do is to interface with the  i bus which lots of ppl have done.

check this out for the other extreme. its the oem head unit, integrated with a pc in the boot. oem head unit buttons control the pc through the ibus.
