Well done lan, have u still got the same one, looks like a great job
How long did it take in total?

Thanks for trying ti make me feel better but have put a new battery
on the car today and the engine light went off  and has yet ti cone back on.
On closer inspection  of the engine noise it inly happens on tiock over but us more of a knocking noise that comes and goes

Will be getting it looked at later in the week so time will tell

All the best
Terry

Hi. yes its still going, 12000 miles since the rebuild. The engines have so many bits in them that I am not surprised there are the occasional rattle. Mine does it occasionally, you can get a tensioner rattle on startup, the main tensioner is easy to change and relatively inexpensive

Hi everyone

I had the car looked at today the engine light and smell was due to build up in part of the exhaust, the rattle was a loose bracket, the power steering had a slight leak so all sorted and i feel a lot better now :beer2:

Thank you to all for your advice and to Ian for trying to make me feel better, i can see that this site is lucky to have so many decent guys.

I will sort out some pics now that i feel better about the car as i want to do a before and after journal.

Thanks again everyone

Not a 'scare' you'll be in a hurry to repeat.  Glad it's sorted and no serious issues.... :)
