Thanks Raj, I may be seeking your advice in the near future ref upgrades. I see you have yours chipped?
Hopefully going to look at car tomorrow, fingers crossed Mrs is up to it.
Very much looking forward to it. Just a quick question, how quickly do the side bolsters wear? Look pretty bad on the pics of the one I`m going to look at? I know they can be reno`d, I had that done on my champagne nappa Z4MC.

Wishing you all the best with the viewing tomorrow
the side bolsters were fine on the one I bought it was a 2004 model with 38k miles on it & I sold it 15k miles later & it still looked well, but I try to twist into the seat rather than rub against the bolster, but as you say it's a easy fix.
You will fall in love with the sound of it, I know I did

Always happy to help buddy. Mines been remapped along with a CAT back custom Magnaflow exhaust and aFe air intake. Goes very well and sounds lovely (if I do say so myself).
As for the side bolsters, yes they can wear quite quickly due to the higher position, etc. You can get it re-upholstered, etc.

Hello All,
An update after I went to see the X5 4.8is I linked to.
Suffice to say I wont be going any further with the purchase. Just not the right one for me. If anyone wants any further information then please PM me, although I`m not sure I can do that yet as i`m such a new member?
My wife liked the idea of the X5, it shrunk round her on the test drive as I thought it would.
Back to the drawing board, It`s possible I`m going to look a little newer, possibly E70.
Liked the guy at the garage, they have some nice stock, the F430 spider tugged at the heartstrings somewhat!!

My internets on an extreme go slow so unable to see pics of the car. The spec seems good enough, as for price I would look around the web to see what other cars of a similar age, mileage are fetching. You can get an idea of expected asking price for a small fee through sites such ask What Car.
At the end of the day, you can offer what ever you want. The dealer can only say no.

just my 2pence.........the 4.8is has to be the best vehicle I have owned, have loved it despite the high fuel bill and numerous visits to dealers (under warranty thank heavens). I drive it in preference to my beautiful Audi S8 which stands on the drive parked up doing nothing most of the time. Mine has one of the highest specs I have seen and even though the satnav is dated, I still find it very useable most of the time and I have a zillion cassettes from the 70s and 80s if I get bored with the radio or CD shuttle. The TV tuner is a hybrid digital so is nice when you actually get a signal, parked up waiting somewhere for an appointment. Mine also has the Webasto parking heater so beloved of the diesel owners, except of course its a petrol version. Bought it from Hexagon at 27000 miles, its now done 60000 and I don't think I'll be parting with it anytime soon. The seats are the most comfortable in this class of vehicle, my partner suffers from a severe form of destructive arthropathy and we tested every luxury 4x4 seat to find the right one for her. My old P38 Range Rover, much as I loved it, was a killer for her seat wise and the newer RR are no better, the seats are awful and cannot hold a candle to the BMW ones. The BMW is just a much better engineered vehicle than the RR and the build quality is so much better- I loved my Rangie and owned it for 7 years, but for a £50k+ vehicle the build quality was really poor.
Given a choice between RR and X5 I know what my choice would be, and I have had long periods of ownership of both.
Hope you find the right X for you and wife - I am dreading having to change someday as the E70 really doesn't attract me the way the 4.8is does.......

Hello Condor,
Thanks for taking an interest. The seats were indeed very comfortable.
I think what were suffering from a little bit is going backwards in BMW cabin and dash technology and architecture. We had a lovely M6 convertible and there`s no doubt the E53 is from a previous generation.
I`m not sure I like going backwards, although it is for the wife! There could be babies in the future and I want the most reliable car I can find.
Whilst I LOVE my BMWs I`m also going to look at a low mileage 57 plate Cayenne Turbo S. Jeez they suffer from depreciation don`t they!

Sorry the e53 4.8 wasn't for you but I do know what you mean when you look at the newer e70 version.
The one you found looks good but check roof works ok as out of warranty, only other thing to mention is its a petrol one and for that money you may want to poss consider the diesel ones,
I know I don't help really but for 25k you could poss a diesel one and they will hold money better an be better on fuel depending on your usage.
But yes I like the spec, ashtray is a wealthy area and so price is poss a bit strong but you are the buyer and car dealers always want to sell their cars ESP this time of the year.
Keep us posted

Hello again all,
Well after looking at getting the wife an x5 we`ve, as per normal, done a complete about turn as they just weren`t as good as I thought they were going to be. I think I had unreasonable expectations really.
We`ve bought 2 cars instead, a Mercedes A200 cdi for the wife and a completely mental decision on the fun weekend car:

I have also increased my life insurance!

I once built a similar kitcar (Tiger) with a Honda Super Blackbird 1100cc engine in it, sequential shift and carbon everywhere - scared the crud out of me every time I got in it LMAO. Have fun (but believe me, it sadly does get tiring after about half as long as you reckon it will........)
