Oh sorry! Was about 24 in the 40d and 26.5 in the 50d but I haven't done too many miles yet. Just happy to be getting good consumption I guess (easy to please lol)

Cheers, I always say the best comparison is the same person, driving style and therefore usually the same roads etc.  I would be chuffed with a 10% increase in economy especially when getting time warping torque.  ::) look after her, I might need to trade up in a few years.

Just a quick update and thanks to all the replies..

We've been using the 3.0d SE for a week or so now and there is at least a 10mpg improvement over the 4.4i, which is what I had hoped for. We will probably improve on this over the coming months once we get used to the car.

The car is a lot bigger, though I guess we will get used to this, I got back in old beast yesterday ( a friend now has the car) and it felt really narrow sitting in there! The new car is blatantly quite different but still has a quality feel about it (though maybe not quite as solid as the E53) and in many respects now makes the E53 seem old. Overall very pleased with the change, the only disappointment are the (non halogen) standard headlamps (the E53's Halogens were much better) any suggestions on how to improve on these would be welcome.

You have the heated headlamp washers right? If so, get the HID kits.
