Wonder how well it works at night

There is a night video on their website.

They better change their description then as a charger implies internal battery, which it does not have so that is not right.

software not Mac compatible either by the sounds of it

I don't mind getting one to trial as it is soooooo much cheaper.

The only thing you are missing is any GPS related data (i.e. proving your speed etc).

Comes with a suction mount so i can use it on the motorcycle helmet and ski helmet

For all the cost it's got to be worth a punt to see if its much cop.  I assume it records in a basic movie formate that's easily viewable as there's no dedicated software.

AVI format, so yes.

Reviews on this product are very patchy (i.e. you either have one that works or one that just doesn't) and some reviews of less then good footage.

However, for £16 for a punt and if you really like it - you can always spend the £265 for the full blown unit. If you don't like the use, it is a hell of a lot cheaper than the £265 one!

They all have batteries BUT only so it can shut down properly without corrupting the card. They can not be used as a stand alone camera.

Both of ours are using the power socket and all the wires are hidden away.

Powered by ciggy lighter and it is left in car permanently but the mount has a built in clip so it is a case of unplug it at the unit and unclip it from screen mount to take away or put in boot.

Just a note on the Blackvue, if it is permanently wired in (good luck with that) it has a parked setting where if it senses movement on the camera or physical movement (as in someone hitting the car) it starts recording. Trace has it only to come on with the ignition at the moment until the warranty is up.
