Just to update,
When I called the dealer back on Thursday to express my dissatisfaction with the situation, I was told that the car might still be available as it had not been ‘sold’ but re-allocated within group stock. 2 hours later I got the call to say that the car was definitely unavailable and they would look out for a suitable alternative for me.

I shall not be holding my breath on that one…
