I have read on the internet that trying to upgrade the satnav firmware can cause the system to crash, and it said that you need to go to the stealers and get it reprogramed.
Im sure one of the forum members would have more info on the matter ( I gues Sanj and X5 Sport are on holiday ) they should not be allowed to go at the same time as it leaves us without the expertise .
Only kidding Guys !!!

I'm back and he'll be here in a day or so.  :)

You have messed up the system and need to run the v32 disc again. Follow it step-by-step to the exact word. If the problem continues, tell the eBay seller and ask for a reliable disc.

Usually you get the old graphics come up though, not a blank screen.

My disc is reliable but also my only copy, if you're down my way anytime soon, feel free to pop by and I'll attempt a reflash...

Cheers Sanj

I have found out what part of the problem is.  My system is the professional and should come with a DVD drive as per conversation with my dealer.

It turns out the previous owner and only has one keeper from new has changed the mk4 for the mk3 and changed the mk3 front with the mk4 so still looks like a DVD player. The owners son did it to upgrade his system.

The mk4 disc messed up the system.  I found someone who has supplied the right disc to me and will be updating later today.

Going to check the car over to make sure all OK otherwise.

Thanks for everything though

Sorry, it was very bad planning on Sanj's part...... O:-).  Nice to know he's appreciated though :P

A re-flash should do it, but it'll be another few days before I can get to my copy........ :-[.  The same OEM firmware disc works in a Mk3 or Mk4 drive as it's all on a CD-ROM.  The updater detects which drive and updates it correctly.

When you do try again, make sure you follow the OEM instructions carefully as it is possible to 'brick' the drive - albeit a rare occurrence - if it is interrupted.

So the facelift you have has a Mk3 unit in it, instead of a Mk4?

If so, make that your first upgrade back to the Mk4. Much better unit.

Hope you get it sorted. :ok:

Will the Mk4 just be a plug and play unit?

Ok Sanj, took your advice and purchased the MK4 unit.

Still can't get the MK: to work and getting miffed trying to sort it out.

Hopefully can now stop wife from nagging!
