Wow. Had no idea about the issues back then. I hope i never have to worry about it but now adays i have a really serious thought about selling my X and ordering a new one. Still debating if i should do it now or wait till 2015. If i do get a new vehicle i will be getting another 3D plate on it.

Thanks for the input guys...most enlightening

I can cope with the BS number in the corner but I wouldn't like HALFORDS at the bottom as the supplier (call me a snob if you like) :))

Tis oddd though that they're allowed online but then again most things are (not that they should be) apart from Football touts

Personally main dealer plates always look good unless cherished transfer then the plate supplier is acceptable. Niggle of mine the Z3 has alll makes indy plates................should get a main dealer set really.

There's more info out there online right down to exactly what forms of ID are acceptable to be produced when buying from an authorised supplier.

IMO running standard reduces likelihood of being pulled over &/or other potential hassles.

Down to the individual but always good to be best informed before making choices.

I found my supplier  from fleabay. There  are tons of them and i also requested the GB option to be added this way i don't have to put a sticker when i drive over to mainland europe.

same here, when i bought the trailer. no documentation checks whatsoever.. number plate was with me i think within 24hrs! plate is entirely legal in terms of size and print etc.

but i can see this route being very easy to abuse - to anyone who wants to clone plates.

The only occasion I ever had an issue with an MOT and numberplates was years ago with a Honda Prelude whose plates had been purchased from Halfords along with all the associated hassle of producing the right documents etc etc -  MOT tester 2 years later claimed the spacing was 6mm out or some such nonsense........it passed MOTs before then mind you with the same plates!!!

Never bothered buying Halfords plates again - used ebay for every other set of plates or trailer plates and never had another problem.  Go figure

My old ones on the e92 were from Halfrauds as they use white printing for their name and the BS number so almost invisible. The dealer put their own on when I transferred the number to the X6 and used black for the "small print" so stands out.

Unless I wanted a custom slogan on the plates I would use Halfrauds again.
