Here you guys! Wanted to send you pics I took myself but its been a hell of a long day and the night has beat me to it!!

I don't think these pics actually do the car justice as the grey looks simply stunning out on the road!!

Ok, so haggled a bit and sealed the deal at £22.5k however there are a few issues I need your help with!

1. Aluminium strip underneath glove box is scratched all over the place. How expensive is it to replace with a new one?

2. The rear brake light casing is cracked and needs replacing/repairing - any advice?

3. Test drive was perfect! Moment I hit the motorway en-route back the steering started vibrating....typical! It's had 2 new rear tyres fitted. Could it be balancing / alignment or both?

4. There's a really annoying knocking sound from the boot every time I go over a speed bump at snails place. It's not mechanical, definitely from inside the boot. Any ideas as to what it could be?

Other than this the car is indeed immaculate. All the panels line up lovely and there is no paintwork what so ever on it

Turns out it was a 1 lady owner from new. (Hence the scratches on the aluminium!). Full BMW service history with the last coming in at a cost of £1400!!

If I could just get the 4 points addressed above, I'd be we'll happy!!

Brake Light - back to the dealer/supplier. Not fit for purpose so their problem.

Wheel vibration - get them to check and rebalance the wheels. Two new tyres means it's the most likely cause. Sometimes the tyres can 'creep' around the rim and throw the balance out.

Mechanical noise in the boot - make sure there is nothing loose including under the boot floor, and then it might well be worth making sure the battery hasn't been removed and when put back, not bolted down!

Trim - pass. Can you identify the part on REALOEM? Use the last 7 of your VIN to get the right model up.

You go to Realoem as it's a copy of the current BMW Parts list. Put the last 7 of VIN into the 'Serial Number' box and when it comes back then 'Browse Parts' and then 'Switch to Images Drill Down'.

Probably find what you're looking for in 'Vehicle Trim'.

As Richard has stated:

1) Aluminium trim panel - it is replaceable. Quite straight forward but sit down as the cost from BMW will be around the £100 mark possibly more.

2) Brake light casing - definitely get the dealer you bought it from to rectify or coverage cost for. Again it is replaceable as is just a plastic cover. Can be a PITA to replace though depending upon how it is fixed in place.

3) Vibration - balancing is the most likely cause.

4) Knocking noise - most likely a broken clip on one of the panels or as stated the battery, etc not fitted back properly.

Anyway, congrats.

Really pleased with it - just need to sort out these issues then I can really enjoy it!

Yes, they have quoted £150 for the aluminium strip and £200 for the lens cover

I dont understand people who buy such nice cars then set about scratching the crap out of it!!

In fairness the rest of the car is spotless.....she clearly didnt like the aluminium strips!!

Booked in for software upgrade, they have charged me £20 for the courtesy car, have confirmed it will take a day.

Need to get the balancing done ASAP, probably tomorrow now.

Oh and did I mention the fact the sound system is awesome! Yes, in a BMW!

I hope they're paying most of the bills!! Certainly the lens and balancing are their problem - not yours.

So a mini update:

Drive now sorted, was indeed the wheel balancing. And I have to say a VAST improvement on my old X5. Feels more refined and solid

Knocking still there - work in progress
Lens cover - work in progress
Strip damage - I may get an interior specialist to look at it. He did a fantastic job on my 750Li so I may not need to fork out on new parts

All in all, very happy with my new X

Found out its got BMW Online as well so I can surf the net - just need to get a SIM.

Also the Bluetooth Passcode is missing....any idea how I can get one?

If it's anything like my (non X5) then you enter the passcode on the phone first, then on the iDrive?

Should indeed be the way. Type a passcode (whatever you want) into the phone when trying to pair and use that on the iDrive.
