sorry i meant if i were having another petrol/lpg, as the 3.0i is perfectly fine just compared to the diesel it is slow and slightly underpowered to the car, but there again were i live is full of hills, i also agree that lpg already done (i bought mine like that) is cheaper/easyier than doing it yourself

I would monitor this site in the Buy or sell section. Some pre loved motors.
You get what you pay for most of the time.
All advertised X5's are on the market for a reason, mainly because they are costing the owner more than they are worth.!!!!
I have a 3.0 D face lift and love it, it has been very reliable and a joy to drive. I have had a V8 Beemer before and they sound brill, but can be troublesome, (as can the turbo diesels.)
The 3.0 D is a lovely drive and the torque is amazing even without a remap. Please test drive them all before you dismiss the diesel.
Edit. never get less than 25 MPG urban, and 32 MPG on a run, no remap yet.

Keen for you to tell me more about the 3.0d. We've previously owned an E39 3.0D Touring and without doubt it was one of the finest cars I've owned. I had it remapped the day after I bought it and it was phenomenal, mapped to 218bhp and constentantly returned 42.8mpg.

I'd like to know what sort of 'real-time' mpg you're getting and have you ever had any issues with things?

The 3.0 D engine was lifted from the 7 series in the facelift version with 218 BHP ( 250 after a remap )
The pre facelift version is I think 184 BHP, but most importantly is the torque ( pulling power is 500NM )in the face lift 560 when remapped ) this makes the weight of the beast move like a 5 series.
Where are you based, if you live near any of the other members i'm sure they would show you arround their motors. Im up in the Manchester area.
I had an E60 530I before my X5, and it feels more powerfull than the 5 series.

.......and the V8 is just two extra spare cylinders.  The 3.0d facelift has the same torque as the 4.8is......just without the soundtrack (which is all the other two pots are really for anyway  ) and fuel bills.

I am running a 3.o petrol which I had converted 4 years ago, it did cost me 2k back then and took a week, but they did a fantstic job of the install and after a few teething problems it is now running fine.You get no improvement in mpg but the emmisions are supposed to be 20% cleaner. But its the half price fuel that makes it worth it, I love the car have had it since Aug 05, and it was LPG that meant i could keep it cos at £120+ to fill the tank that just wasnt viable.even on the average mileage we do I calculated we got our money back after 18 months on lpg. I do find that in the winter  on colder days the lpg gets a bit sticky on short round town journeys and so we turn it off and use only on a run where it is faultless.....it is a wonderfull feeling to drive this awesome 50k motor for 74p a litre.
