silicon spray into the door panel particularly before the winter is something i've heard ppl doing on the E53.

New car, Lots of electrical gremlins :(

Best thing to do is apply a non water based silicon type lube to the door seals so that you don't rip your door handles off the first time we get a frost.  Way too many people breaking the carriers in the winter because the damp has frozen the door shut.

Thanks for the tips. Will be spraying the window runners and door seals with silicon spray.
I must say the door handles feel quite odd on the x5, you kinda have to pull them out all the way... dont know if I am doing something wrong, it just feels that they should open on the first pull, but generally I have to pull it twice to open them.

**UPDATE**
Right, wifey picked up the car this morning. Old ignition switch in hand. Been driving it all day, and all seems well now.
They also did a software update on the gearbox (as I would notice and occasional thump into 1st after having stopped dead at a traffic light for a few seconds. Said it was in need of the update, so lets see if it solves the issue, hope so cos something was not quite right there - may have been related to the ign switch somehow though, so only time will tell.

I want to open the old ignition switch and see exactly what it is that fails inside these - I am curious.

Strip the switch, go on, do it and take some pics so we can all understand what the problem is :)

Hi mate,
Did the software update fix the thump when box was changing down at junctions etc?
