Re traction control light, when airborne, the xdrive system won't be able to ascertain the correct traction situation and so will automatically enter a traction control state, hence the light......

Have managed to get the TCS light to come on too - but only when being 'enthusiastic' with the throttle, or on loose surfaces.
With the rear diff system being filled with electronic controller gizmo's and clutches, it probably needs pairing to the car - hence the calibration. At least that's my off the wall guess anyway..

Yeah!!!!
Got it back today at 11am!! Its like having a new car. It's been fully valeted etc even smells new!!! Great being up high once more!
So I celebrated and nipped into our nearby out of town shopping centre (about 1 mile away from the dealers) to treat myself to some new clobber and a 'Donald's milkshake!
Then jumped back in her to drive home, got about 800yds and the bingbonging started followed by dash lit up like the olympic stadium!!!
About turn, back to dealers and swapped into another 3 series touring!!! (fate?)
Enquiried about the new 330d and put my name down for their preview party end of august!!!

That inspires confidence in them then doesn't it! Not!! Sorry you're still having issues. There really is no excuse for not doing everything properly. Perhaps BMW Dealers are now following the Govt's advice to 'Do more with less!'. So the service jobs are being done by Receptionists, and the Technicians are running the car wash - hence yours being nicely presented
My iDrive crapped out this afternoon with a bright red display for 20 secs then switched off! Recovered after being left for 10 minutes whilst I went to buy some Meths (For painting, not drinking I hasten to add! Things aren't
that bad yet). All the buttons still worked, just no display. First time it's happened so will watch for the future.

My faith in Dealer abilities is dwindling very quickly. I can't stand the excuses and lazy practice of the 'Technicians'. I have got my brothers car in at the moment with a Transmission fault - laptop says there is a fault with the Gearbox... I felt like drivng down to the dealers and smashing the laptop over his f**king head! I booked it in because there was a fault with the Gearbox - not to be told that after an hour on the laptop they agree!! Get out in the f**king car and try to replicate the problem then diagnose with your mechanical and technical expertise!!
Sorry for the rant... just not taking a £2.5k quoted rebuild when they haven't identified the problem very well. Be very glad you are having the work on your X6 on Warranty...
It kind of puts me off buying another BMW but then I think I just need to make sure that it has their Comprehensive Warranty...

Back to the TCS light thingy.......mine has a tendency to come on when going over speed bumps at anything more than walking pace

Today's blind stab in the dark is to replace the transfer box!!!!
They had to put in a 'PUMA' case to BMW, and thats what's come back!
"...expect the car back Wednesday / Thursday next week..."
At least the mileage is being kept low for its PX valuation!!

Oh well, working from back to front then
That leaves gearbox and engine and you'll have nearly a completed drivetrain change....
Good thing it's a warranty job! Was a tech using a sledgehammer to do a job that said 'tap lightly to adjust'?

Crazy really that they are hardly mechanics at all (not in the old meaning). Yes they can change a part if the computer says so and shows them how but most aren't capable of doing anything without the laptop and most would crap themselves if you brought them a car that was any other manufacturer than the one they have been trained on.
Indy's have a good all-round knowledge and sometimes I prefer to take my car there. The only time I take the car to the dealers is if I need a Service just so I can get the stamp in the book...

Hopefully the final update of this saga!!!
The X6 is back on the drive after nearly two weeks away, its had the Rear Diff and Transfer Box replaced... Not sure on total repair bill but needless to say glad for warranties at this point in time.
But whilst the X6 was away, i have been considering changing it, but could not decide what to go for, i love the x6 but if its going to give me hassle then it will have to go...I need something simple, reliable but it would have to put a smile on my face when i look at it or drive it, so from what I can tell I've made the obvious choice....No more laptop diagnositics here...!!! anyone know a good spannerman?
