Defo Trading Standards now!! With the Engine Mgmt light being on that's an automatic MOT fail (since January) and they are looking at money. If the fault occurred within a couple of days then they have to either fix or give him his money back.
If the firm has changed hands then lets see the appropriate company papers as lodged with HMRC (for VAT etc) and Companies House......I bet nothing has changed.....

I think it happened quite soon after they bought the car, but maybe within a month and not days.
I personally think its a question of a business thinking they can shrug aside the little man type of scenario.
Maybe if it gets as far as the legal people then the question of who actually owns what can be brought to light.
It's actually for his partner, and she carries there 2 children around in it, so there is also a safety issue as well with all the lights that keep coming on due to the engine management unit being suspect.

This would be my view as well, but it's difficult for me to try and advise/help him when he's 200 miles away, apart from a phone call, and there have been several of those, even one when he was in the salesmans office getting grief, ( you try calming a 25 year old bloke down who thinks he's been done over by an arrogant prick ).
The garage are basically saying its between him and the warranty company now, all that they have done before was purely a " goodwill gesture"
Put yourself in his shoes, standing there being told to go sort it out yourself after parting with your hard earned and buying from a garage so as to have a warranty, and, on top of this, the car is being used by your misses to ferry around your loved ones,(children), whilst not knowing what the hell is going to go wrong next.
I'd find it hard to keep calm myself, at my ripe old age, let alone at 25.
Not sure I'm allowed to name and shame, probably against forum rules, but if not then I will.
