Alright then, here we go, after many an hour (no joke), ladies and gentlemen i am proud to present a picture of a car.
More importantly its my car and is the reason i am here.
And for my next trick i will attempt to make the below picture appear under my name!
Please note, due to computer difficulties, ie me,this may not happen for a while.
Image
in response to AW8 i will have a go at posting pics of the RS and the RX8 next.
OK Sanj as per our aggreement, i believe that the pic means i get to ask another question!
this is probably too easy a question but as this is the first auto i have ever owned, am i right in thinking that you park it in park and as this appears to lock the transmission, and with no clutch to operate is the hand brake not kind of redundant?
i have also found no use for neutral so far, with the only uses i can think of being getting towed or going through the car wash-perish the thought.
i know there will be an obvious explanation for all of the above, but as a newcomer to autos and with a massive % of x5s being auto i am sure someone on here will know the reasons.
As i have now made my appearance in the newbies section i am assuming its now the done thing to post any other stuff in the appropriate forum.
can i just say once again thanks to everyone who popped up to say hi.

A very tidy example...... :ok:

Yes you are correct in thinking that using 'P' does indeed lock the transmission, well sort of.  What it does is put a pawl pin into the system to stop it moving.  In theory this could be said to make the parking brake redundant BUT that isn't the case as using 'P' as the only way to hold the car once parked leaves the transmission under load and that causes extra wear.  Use the Parking Brake, it's safer, and also kinder on the transmission than just using 'P'.  It is not unknown for the park pawl to shear and the parking brake is then the only thing holding the car.

I don't think 'N' got used much with mine unless the engine was running and I wasn't going anywhere - such as when dong some service items, or using the car as the 'source' when jump starting another vehicle.  Using 'N' saves you loading up the gearbox as everything can move freely.  You will never be towed!  The only way to recover your car in the event if a problem is a 'full lift' as doing anything else will destroy the gearbox and 4WD system!!

Look forward to seeing you in the E53 sections........

Richard

Hi thanks for the quick response.
Here is a quick pic (or maybe two if i can suss it out) of the escort i used to own as requested by AW8.
as you can immagine after 14years, a load of time, and more than a few quid (those dice were pricey), i was gutted to have to sell it.
But thats life,a  lack of cash, house improvements, kids, and no time to use it all forced the sale.
as i said before though the x is the first car in a while that i have been enthusiastic about.
lets hope it carries on with the good start its made so far.

Two pics in the same post was perhaps a bridge too far for me, so heres another.

it seems i have to use the laptop to post pics, unless someone out there knows a way to do it from an ipad or iphone.
i have another question-is it ever going to stop raining? I only have one pic of the x as its always dirty as every time i wash and polish it rains before i can even finish it.
Cant wait for the summer (2013)!

Very nice.  Brings back some memories of that series of Escorts.  I drove the first generation FWD versions when working for Surrey Police.  The 1600 engine had a very nasty habit of breaking cam belts!  A fair few engines were destroyed due to 'valve strikes' after the belts snapped!! We changed them every 3,000 miles for a while until Ford solved the issue.  It was apparently caused by the belt having to flex twice through 180deg in opposite directions and in the space of a few inches.  Hardly surprising they broke very quickly.

You should be able to post pics from the iPad via Safari.  All you need is to copy the code for each image as you have been off Photobucket and paste it into the post you are creating.  I find you do need to keep this forum open on one tab and PB open on another and switch between them.

There's a Photobucket App for the iPhone/iPad too if you haven't already found it.. :)

A lot of us iPad/iPhone users use an app called tapatalk.  You can upload pics with that.
