The pairing message comes before you even do anything with your phone though, so that can not be the reason.

That's what I thought PVR. Am I right in thinking that the three LED's will light up on the head unit too once the bluetooth system is making itself visible and ready to pair?

I know the car works because I've done the pairing and demonstrated the working system in person to Pete. I'm trying to recall how I did it three years ago (from 4000 miles away and no car to refer to). I just want him to succeed. It's all a lot simpler on an E70!

It is really simple to do... I just can't remember and I am in Kaz at the moment so can't pop out and get the handbook. Someone must have the handbook to hand to read what it says about BT Pairing? Mine has worked a couple of times now straight away just following the handbook...

Hope you get it sorted Pete.

My earlier post is the step by step guide which is what I always use as well.

Well, I could either stay quiet & people can wonder what had gone on...

...or I can hold my hands up and confess to being an idiot.

I was doing the procedure as described but waiting for the lighs on the MID to come on then release (obviously they never did) - I didn't realise that I should release the button THEN the lights would come on for pairing mode.

I got there in the end, SORRY!!!!

Thanks for update. Please don't worry about it as it's things like this people read that give them an idea of what might be going wrong. :-)
I'm not sure if it could be down to my phone or more than likely the fact that I am inept
At least I was right about something

Slightly OT, but might be of help to some people....

Since upgrading to an iphone 4, my BT refused to make calls, and the BT connection would drop every now and again - it just seem rather flaky.

The phone book would transfer, and you could select a number to call, but it would not make the call, nor receive them.

So I tried deleting all the previous parings and re-pairing, removing the BT module and reconnecting it, and even taking the battery out for 20 mins - none of these made any difference to the issue.

So I moved my attention back to the phone.... from the BT control panel on the phone, toggling "phone favourites" and "phone recents" off, cured my issue. I assume these options must of come in with iOS4.

Now I have functioning BT again, and I hope this may be of some help.

That is great, Nat.

Could you make a dedicated post and I will make it a sticky for iPhone 4 owners?

Thanks, made it a sticky now

I have not locked it yet as there were some scripting error messages, and maybe in case you needed to add something. Will lock later.

Sorry PVR, I have replied to that thread just to thank nat for that info... just delete it if you want to make it a clean sticky!

Thanks again nat for the useful info.
