Urgent advice please

Glad to hear you at least have the brakes sorted. I don't think you are being cynical at all, just a realist IMO.
Did you mention previously that you nigh on went via the garage on business? If so, it's not a biggie.

Glad it's all going in the right direction now.. :ok:

And a VERY good thing you thought to ask about the AUC Cover as that could have been a very nasty surprise on down the road.  Dealer probably has to pay for it and thought he was getting some money back.  Not a good way to be treated.

At least you now have a working and driveable X5 that isn't shaking your teeth out when the brakes are applied.... :)

Well done!

Get them to order the correct seal in and post it to you. You can fit that yourself or get a local compenent mechanic to do it, but no issue really.

Door seal will take more than 2 minutes. More like 4 minutes...lol

Definitely the best idea though as its not hard to fit and saves you the mileage and time, etc.

Of course the other thing if you really want them to maximise their costs is get them to cover the cross charge of getting your local dealer to fit it. I've done that before.

Great idea. But what is a "compenent mechanic" though?  :))

I am not surprised by the initial dealer response, over the last 17 years I have purchased many BMW's - mostly new, but I have had three AUC cars, and one was an X5, I have to say it only got 20 miles and broke down. I did some 600 miles in it and was told it needed all new front arms at a cost of £650 to me!

I disputed this and the fact that I felt they had never MOT'd it as the washers never worked, we argued and in the end I paid £50 for a new MOT (for my piece of mind). If this had been my first experience with BMW I would never have purchased one again. I now stick to my chosen dealer and have no problems.

All I would say is the AUC warranty is only as good as the dealer and you cannot depend on the quality of an AUC car from a poor dealer. I would never deal with that dealership again, I wonder how many people reject BMW because of a poor dealer? You expect better and generaly that is the case.

An all too familiar tale.....the Dealer I bought my E53 from wasn't any good and eventually went out of business.  Sales were great....until you handed the money over....and then didn't want to know.  The AUC Warranty is 'supposed' to be something to trust, but I don't think any of them really are, regardless of make.  Before I could afford BMW I had a Vauxhall with a Network Q' warranty but when the ECU failed they said I would have to pay for the new one up front (£800 in 1992), and only if Vauxhall said it was faulty would the refund me.  I gave him the keys and got a refund!!
