Anybody actually prefer the E53 to the E70....
Re: Anybody actually prefer the E53 to the E70....
The E53 wasn't a 'Bangle' design, hence ageing more gracefully that some of his other work...... Still he's gone now so no more 'flame' shapes like the last generation 1, 3, 5 and 7 series, and I suspect the X3 and pre-LCI E70. I also think the E36 was a much better looking car than the ones that followed. At least the boot is still properly useable on the Convertible.....
Do you mean 36 or 46, you have a 46. Does that mean you own the wrong car?

Yep, I'm with you there. My own thoughs are that the E39 M is one of, if not the best looking 5 series. One in Imola red is just loverley.
I had a E36 M3 Evo so I am biased towards that design also
I cant seem to gell with the E70 just yet, I prefer the looks and the style of the E53, the other thing is the interior and the steering wheel. It just looks odd.

Re: Anybody actually prefer the E53 to the E70....
They both look good styling wise, the danger with the E70 is the that bottom line of teh car is actually closer to the car then the E53, the roof is also higher than the E53 and its actually longer than the E53. Yes thats longer, taller, wider but unfortunately also lower to the ground. I fear that this has from some angles made it looke like a very muscly and bulbous estate car especially on the models which have the colour coded wheelarch plastics.
I am sure the lower stance and and on road wheels with tiny profile tyres all helps the drive but lets face it, these are supposed to be off-roaders, ok we all know that they were not designed for that but when its no longer designed for that and no longer even looks like it was designed for that then I think its kinda missing the point. I like my 4x4's to have decent ground clearance (purely for appearance) and terrible aerodynamics. I dont want it to be slick. I want stubby and rugged and imposing!!!
So we can say what we like about the Range Rovers and their cumbersome drive, but lets face it, its a design icon, minor tweaks at each model but like the Porsche 911 its essentially unchanged since 1970. I personally have owned some Range Rovers, I loved them but I simply cannot take the low tech engineering and reliability problems and above all the big lean on the corners. It pains me to say it, its the Vogue SE that will have the concierge at the casino rushing to open your door, never the X5.

I think the E46 was one of nicest BMWs ever made and still looks good now, although so does the E30.

I miss the curved cockpit in the passenger side on e46

Probably because they new you were going to be getting car sick with the RR, but perfectly capable of getting yourself out with the BMW. We bought the E53 because unfortunately my wife suffers from motion sickness, and the RR encouraged it!
I had a fleet of 20+ Discos and I now what you mean about reliability.....awful, and the Dealers and running costs...worse!

Re: Anybody actually prefer the E53 to the E70....
All I meant was that realy the e70 should look better, compared to the e53 some will and won't agree but I would say the e53 was on top of its competition where as if I were buying an e70 now I would seriously consider q7 sline and also very much like the ml63 and the e71, were as in the day of the e53 I wouldn't give anything else a thort

A couple of pictures of my previous M3's. Traded the E92 in for my E70 and still miss it.
