Yeah I did ask and the guy said that it was fully covered under the franchised dealer cover so no reduction due to mileage. Still dubious...

You better get that in writing as well, as mine was franchised and had all the deductions applied due to mileage.

Exactly my concern. Always appears to good to be true and sales staff tend to say what you want to hear to get the sale.

I got the distinct impression that for our first year we had goodies 'bolted on' which were non-standard and which we're removed in later renewals. The old 'bait and hook' system. I'm as suspicious as you folks. But then they're an insurance company and with them you must ALWAYS be suspicious! :x

Just received my renewal quote from Warranty Direct which has increased from £485 to £521 for a E70 X5 D SE with 70K on their "extra care" policy which I have had for 1 year and no claims made on it. Contacted them this morning and informed them I wish to cancel the policy due to the increase and also no discount being shown for loyalty. Without having to haggle, they dropped the increase in price back to £485 and all the extras which had been added on would continue if I took out the policy NOW!! Informed them I would think about it and that they will ring me back in a couple of days. This is probably the only time I have to influence the price even lower so will ask for more goodwill and also the cost of diagnosis by a bmw garage is covered when they ring back. If you don't ask, you don't get!! Will keep you updated after discussion with them.

Always always have some proof of what they are telling you, either in letter form, or email, stating all that has been discussed, then, and only then should you proceed with your plastic.
I do remember talking to them during my previous X5 ownership, after it had been posted on here, guy was really knocking the pounds off and promising all sorts of cover, emailing me as well, I ended up declining the package, but only because I was unsure about how long I would be keeping the car. When I did sell the X5 and bought the rrs I then called them up to see if I could get a good deal to cover that, I was told that that particular salesman was no longer working for them, I did say it was a shame as he was doing some good deals, they said, " that's the reason he no longer works here sir "
Be careful, as has been said, they are sharks, whoops, I meant to say ins. company. 8-)

And remember, they have a 30% 'Cancellation Fee' if you change your mind, or no longer need the non-transferable policy!

Tbh I'm starting to lead towards forgetting it as I really can't be bothered with the potential hassle I'm sure I will encounter if I do need to make a claim.

Just to counter that. When my transmission failed there were no issues at all. WD even arranged to recover my car the 30 miles from BMW (who would only fit a new box of course) to their own repairer who by chance was less than 5 miles away. I didn't have to pay for any of that, and they did all the work. If the diagnosis is straightforward (in my case 15 mins by BMW) and the repairs are clearly covered (the auto box was) then it all works beautifully. It paid for itself handsomely for several years, but we only used it for three before selling the car.

WD only got 'difficult' when the repairer took a long time to diagnose a simple fault (the fuel pump relay) - and a known fault - which added to the cost to me. We chose to have the vehicle recovered from south west Wales (by our breakdow cover supplier at no cost) to an Indy who advertise as a BMW Specialist and have done our servicing. If it had gone to the main dealer the fault might have been identified much faster and the cost to me would I suspect have been much reduced.

I now have my doubts about that Indy as when they changed the battery on the E46, half the electronics went out and the 30A roof fuse got blown. Now that took some doing! My wife failed to fully check the car before accepting it back. I found the issues when she got home and the car went back to them. It took them nearly a week to sort out whatever it was they'd done wrong - which we were never told. I suspect the car had been given to a new tech who did something stupid like connect the battery backwards!!

Ive got a 6 month warranty with mine but havent received the paperwork yet so dont know who it is with. It had 115k on it when I got it and I want to make sure im not going to loose out on a percentage due to mileage as that would seem unfair.

My main concerns for cover are engine, autobox and air suspension the rest im not too scared of. The forum does help so much with fixing a lot of things.

I think owning the x5 and being on the forum you have to be careful not to become paranoid as there seems to be so many problems but im sure the very nature of a lot of people being on the forum is because they have problems, there is probably a huge number who just drive the things with no major issues and are not enthusiasts so we never hear...... not many people post to say god this thing is not playing up enough if you get what I mean

I would check the very very small print as you may find that wear and tear items like suspension airbags and pumps may just maybe might not even be covered, as pointed out to me by my brother in law who sells warranties with his cars.

You have to read the policy carefully and they will usually cover breakdowns, but it's a tough call whether to take one out or not.

i've been watching this thread and i would like to add a couple things as well. i do have the WD cover and mine is just a independent garage secure care package with a few extras thrown in the package. last week when i had the water pump issue i had my X5 recovered to BMW dealership since i had AA to pay for the repair but the BMW actually called and spoke with WD instead and they actually approved the work to be done no problems.of course they did not cover all the costs since i did not have the franchise garage coverage so they only approved 275 quid of 537 quid bill. if had the franchise package they would probably pay for almost everything except the percentage of the parts which would have been about 50 quid or so. theyeven paid for the diagnosis as well which suprised me. at the end i made the paymet to BMW and expecting a check from WD for 275 and another check from AA for 465. on top of that i have 2 year warranty on the parts that was replaced by BMW. i am planning on renewing my policy with WD with franchise option and if i can get the extra care it will be even better. now i am talking with them to get my VW touran to be covered as well and they offered me 900 quid for 2 year extra care package at the franchise dealership coverage. i told them to give me a call back when they can come up with a better price. my VW has 69K miles with full service history and i just had it serviced 2 weeks ago to change the cambelt, waterpump, brake fluid change, gearbox oil change and fuel and air filter change. so i know it is in good condition and hoping it wont give me a headache but knowing that i have a back up coverage makes me feel better. and the AA BRC is brilliant as well. i paid 273 quid for an annual coverage from AA for pretty much everything they offer to include paying for my repairs on the 2 vehicle i nominate up to 3000 quid. i also have the stay mobile option where they supply me with a rental from enterprise for 3 days when i have my vehicle is in for repair. so far the AA already paid for itself. i am planning on taking my X5 to get my gearbox done as well so that should be under the warranty belt as well.
so at the end knowing that you have a coverage even for a crappy claims service is better than none.
