X5Sport who are you insured with? I got the free 7 day policy from BMW but putting my wife's details in for a full quote saw a nigh on 1500 quid policy which is just mad.
The genuine BMW parts thing makes no odds as if it's our fault I will pay for repairs of probably up to a couple of grand to save on excess and future premiums, and if it's their fault then we get to approach the dealer for repair anyway. The rental car they give you is not necessarily a Beemer either; mine was a Mitsy Colt which I could just about fit in. A more reasonable quote of up to a grand would be about right.

I used the free BMW 7-day policy when I got my 40d MSport last summer. Then they wouldn't even quote me because the car didn't have a tracker! LV was cheapest at about £500

It was actually worse with the insurance - the increase for the M Sport was 3 times that of the SE.

7-day freebie BMW policy to get the initial reg done and now with Aviva. BMW's full quote with Zurich was about the same as yours. The combined (compulsory + voluntary) excess with Aviva is £850 though. I did look around this year, but no one came close other than Saga, and that was only because of their introductory discount. Every other quote was more than £1,000 with similar excesses. Some wanted trackers, some didin't. Some gave a discount for my IAM Membership, most didn't.

We had planned to go over to an Admiral Mult-car policy but when we put the E46 into storage they refused to insure it and took the discounts away. They lost the chance for the business as they were no longer competitive.

Crikey how much are you paying then!?!?

If that is for me:

Full year E53 premium: £200
Upgrade to E70 SE (wrongly noted by Admiral): £35 additional premium for 6 months
Updated policy to M Sport: £69 premium increase on top of the SE premium increase.

Just took out the gap insurance from directgap.co.uk, worked out at £195 for 4 years £25k which I thought was good (compared to BMW's offer of £300 for £10k for 3 years).
