unfortunately by now the cd changer option sounds like an ancient idea.. haven't decided yet, and i have time anyways, cos i have a couple of other priority projects on the X before that..
1. aux heater diagnosis with reslers
2. can't pump diesel into the tank *&%^$%^£$%^£$"$%"^&&
j
on point 1 i live in NW London and was able to activate aux. heating using a recently purchased 1.4 scanner.
i'm more than happy to do the same for you if that's what you need.
cheers mate, thx, naah i have the scanner and i've enabled it.
my aux heater used to run cold, did not get heated, and would switch off reporting a glow-plug error. since of late it doesn't come on at all (even when the error is cleared with the scanner). so i now have to get down and dirty with the webasto..
Just to clarify, if you are intent on CD's and hate iPods, it is possible to connect a CD Changer (CHA-S634, CHA-S624 etc) or DVD Changer (DHA-S680 or DHA-S690) to the Intravee directly with no switch. You only need a switch if you want to connect two or more CD Changer type devices, so KCA-420i and CHA-S634 for example.
If I was to get one of the DVD Changers listed above, would this allow me to play DVD's on screen on the dash?

No, I don't believe so.

Yes and no!
Playing DVD's in the DHA-S690 when connected to the Intravee is possible, but when the Intravee source is selected you won't get video. You can connect up the video output to the AV input on the TV module but there are problems :
1) The AV input only has very poor quality Mono audio.
2) When you select the TV the Intravee will pause playback as it is no longer the selected source.
3) You need the Infrared remote to perform all but very basic DVD navigation, anything except Next/Prev track, FF/RW and Play Pause.
There are mechanisms to get round these restrictions, if you press and hold the MFW 'Next' key while the TV is selected then the IV will power up the DHA-S690 and resume playback. You can also configure any available key to toggle the audio between the TV module and previous audio source.
So, lets say you have the DHA-S690 connected to the Intravee and AV input of the TV. The sequence you need to get decent audio playback on the monitor of a standard DVD with a menu system would be :
1) Select the Intravee as the source, select the DHA-S690 as the Intravee source if you have a switch. Playback will start, audio only.
2) Select the TV option from the BMW main menu, the DVD will pause.
3) Select the AV input on the TV is not already selected.
4) Toggle audio from the TV to the Intravee using a predefined key, for example a long key press of the Tape Reverse key.
5) Press and hold the 'Next' key on the MFW to resume playback.
6) Use the Infra Red remote to navigate through the DVD menu to start the movie.

I have a alpine dha-s690 connected with an Intravee switch, need to play around with the settings and get an update when I get a chance, it does makes things a bit more difficult. Ive got alpine screens in the headrests and hoped that I could get everything to work independently, but prob won't be possible. If all fails I'll just drop the switch.
