Before replacement, just worth taking the disc out and re-inserting a few times. I had this problem earlier in the year ie it defaulting to non Sat Nav screen. Taking the disc out and putting it back in a few times cured it.

Il give that a try mate as the previous owner had an ICE system in it and didn't use the sat Nav or the front widescreen unit

He used some other make of headunit and sound system

Ah ha. So someone has been pulling wires about and changing all manner of things when using a different ICE system. In that case I'd start by checking all the connections to the screen and the Nav computer are correct.

Good thought Dennis but the OP has tried a mk4 unit which worked so I would say nothing wrong with wiring etc. it's more likely that the nav unit is knackered which I assume is why the previous owner fitted aftermarket.

Thanks guys

The only reason the previous owner used a aftermarket unit as the car was a demo car and had £20k worth of ICE so changed the unit

Good thing is that he got the whole car dynamat'd so it's quiet inside with the sound proofing

Now on the hunt for a mk4 unit hopefully lol

so the sound problem is sorted up and running with the dsp sound

now the sat nav is sorted to got a replacement mk3 unit with europe maps

now the problem ive got is that its stuck in another country on the unit i think its in brussels and the voice navigation is not in english either

so if i put a destination in which is a few miles away it shows that its over 400 miles away as it thinks its in brussels

in the top right corner where GPS is supposed to show up it doesnt so does it mean i might need a new gps antenna??

any advice chaps?
