Simple question about windscreen washers

Post by gchristofi » Thu Feb 16, 2012 7:40 pm

Hi Jonny

Mine has 2 pumps (2004 facelift). Easily accessible on the washer bottle itself. Push stalk away to 1st position activates the rear wiper. Push away and hold in next position operates the rear washer. Pull back to middle turns off rear wiper again.

Pulling stalk towards you and holding should operate front screen wash and high speed wipe until released. If your headlights are on, this also operates their washers every 5th go.

Simple question about windscreen washers

Now, reading your description of what is happening, I suspect a wiring problem rather than swapped pipes. Could be at switch but worth checking at washer bottle too.

[quote=""jonnyivy""] when I pull the lever back it only washes the rear screen.
On the other hand, when I push lever fully forward the washers for the front work okay ( along with the headlight washer too )

sounds like simply the pump wires or the pipes swapped.

Weather permitting, the bonnet will be lifted tommorow and I'll have a look.
Thankyou for guiding me in the right direction,
will let you know what I find,

SORTED,.. thanks for your help, especially last 2 posters.
Had a look at the 3 pumps on side of washer fluid container,..took the 2 pumps that were side by side and swapped the wiring plugs,.. bingo,.. all working as they should
On hindsight, my car had a new turbo fitted last year under warranty and I suspect this resevior was removed for the job.

Thanks again,.. great forum,

Says a lot for the turbo fitter if they put the plugs back in reverse... :headbang:

Glad it's sorted and was that simple.

Nice one, better the wiring at the bottle end than the stalk, result...
