I made a trip into Halfords today. I already have the 861 aero bars on my Lexus so was hoping to get away with just the footpack and fitting kit at £105. The guy wasn't sure how much longer the 869 bars are versus the 861. I know the X5 is 8cm wider than the Lexus so he recommended waiting until I collect my 40d msport on the 1st March and then buy everything except the bars and see if they fit. Obviously, if not, I will have to fork out the extra £175 for the aero bars!

Know this is an old thread.  Just wondering are the attachments which latch on to the solid roof rails rubber padded so they don't leave scratches/marks on the rails?

Hi yes they have rubber inserts so no scratches on the rails , just remember to wrap something around them when not in use as they have a tendancy of falling out as BMW don't do spares for them it is a new rack !

I've now purchased a Kamei 510 and two sets of bars both with adaptors to fit my wife's 2016 X3 and my 2016 X5 albeit the adaptors are both the same, it's only the bars that are a different length.

As a matter of interest I bought the flush fitting Whispar bars which get great reviews and fit the car perfectly.

Roofbox.co.uk did a fine job, everything being delivered by 12pm the next day.

The box is fitted to the X3 ready for a brief trip away and it's amazing how we managed without one previously  :'(

That looks just the job!
I'm currently looking for one as the dogs have taken over the boot.
Roofbox.co.uk looks like a good place to start
F15 for the dogs, 996 C4S for road trips, Defender for the mud & E36 M3 for the track
