My V8 Engine Rebuild
Re: My V8 Engine Rebuild
More pictures time for anyone who has been following this
A clean cylinder head
Timing the cams
Cam locking plates in position
Check out faithful adjustable spanner
Setting cam position indicator
Ready to go in
Now just waiting for insurance company to sort out the damage the thieving scum did to the body while they were trying to steal it. Looks like they are getting away with it as well, even after threatening me with a hammer
Back to the engine, easy to work on, just think of it as 2 straight 4 cylinder engines joined at the hip. Just hope I have got the cam timing right or there will be some nasty noises .
I hired the timing gear from E-Bay as it was going to be over £800 to buy, and also used the TIS manual, as it was not going to be possible to do it without. As for the final cost, I cant see how recon engines are advertised for £3000 as it costs that much for bits alone
Kept me out of mischief for a while though.

Re: My V8 Engine Rebuild
Engine still going like a rocket (probably go bang now ) ) ) Done about 12000 miles since rebuild, had it remapped and it gets about 2 mpg better (calm down you diesel people) Also takes off like a dragster which is not quite what I was after but its lots of fun. >:D Remap works fine with gas, I assume because the gas system uses all of the petrol sensors.
Re: My V8 Engine Rebuild
that's an EXTREME job  must be truly satisfying!

Re: My V8 Engine Rebuild
Did you have any bits left over.....
Mate of mine rebuilt his Fiat 131 Supermirafiori engine and had several important looking parts still in the jam jar. It ran OK though. Perhaps Fiat built spares into each unit.... :'(

Re: My V8 Engine Rebuild
You are a great mechanic when you fix a vehicle and make it run and still have leftover parts from a rebuild.
