I always measure centre of wheel to wheel arch before I start then jack under the ball joint to same height from centre of hub to wheel arch to torque up... Easier with no wheel in the way
Just to dumb this down, as I will give this idea to my mechanic when he does the work.

So when wheel is on as normal, measure from centre of wheel, up to wheel arch and write it down.

then what? please ear with me, sit me infront of a computer and i can get it to do anything for you, sit me infront of a car to work on it, i have no idea....I know what a jack is and what it does : p
Write that measurement down and then when the wheel is off you can raise up the hub using a jack so's you get the same measurement from the wheel arch to the centre of the hub

Because the bush needs tightening under load (all the weight of the car back on the suspension like when the car has the wheel back on and is un jacked ;) )
Your mech will know this .....if he doesn't change him
If your taking it to a garage they will likely do it all on a lift so's no need for this info.

Ok, so measure centre wheel to arch when car is on floor. JAck it up and remove wheel. Do I then use another jack under wheel hub to jack it up to same measurement as written down, and then let mechanic commence work? Trust me if he doesnt do this, i will change mechanics.....lol

Fit the new part and then raise the hub using a jack to get the same measurement from arch to wheel centre then tighten up
