Thanks guys. Nothing new just fancied yet another change and went for this - took me a year to decide. Pewters knows how long I was debating this one and yes the door handles do come out, just wasn't sure if that was over-kill. But the silver has no place in the car now. So I will do them.

Since being out in it today I really got to appreciate the fruits of my labour! It's really nice, the CF film is really good stuff much better than I'd have hoped for. Raj you were right! And the cabin doesn't feel dark, this stuff reflects the light really well.

Every piece is easy to do, just getting the centre console out and then wrapping the trim which was not as straight forward as I'd hoped. But done and done right! ;)

Now on a serious note - join me for a minutes silence please, RIP wood. You'll be SAWLY missed....

Sanj, I know you are a stickler for perfection, and you nearly did it...

You nearly lined up the weave between the ashtray and the surround .... :P

Looking good though mate

I decided I wouldn't modify my X5 at all, partly due to having a main dealer warranty but seeing your results Sanj I am very tempted to do this mod as the one thing I disliked when buying mine was the light wood trim. I have light grey leather so would be interested to see what the lighter carbon wrap looks like. My only concern is how difficult it is to get the finish up to the standard where it looks factory fitted. I have used a wrap to protect my mountain bike and it was a pain to do and I was left with some bubbles.

If I were to do some mods I think I would do this, white LED angel eyes and interior/exterior lights and probably the alloy look grill then leave it at that. Basically just give it a fresher look but still factory looking to the untrained eye. I would also consider the aux heater but the thread has become so complicated it's scared me off!

Hey Dan,

Thanks for the compliment - looks even better in the flesh. The warranty should never be an issue with this wrap on the interior - all the dash and door panels just pop out. It's the centre console that's a ball ache, but 7 screws, 12 connecting plugs and some swearing and the centre console comes out. Then a case of following logic on removing just the would piece. All screwed in.

Finish wise, it will be factory finish - this stuff is so good to work with. You see a bubble, heat and stretch again and all sorted. Plus the pattern is 3D to the touch/feel, so you have less chance of seeing any 'bad bits'! Just needs time and very little practise (do the door ones first).

Oh and believe it or not, this mod cost me £27.50 (one sheet 60cm x 120cm) and all the wood is covered and I have enough left to do the door handles too. Pay someone to do it and the centre console may not come out, the finish won't be the same and I've heard upwards of £350 being charged... :o

Other mods a great idea for a fresher look - assuming you have a diesel to do the aux heater mod. Can be done and not much of a mission. Always here to help...

Can take better pics with DSLR if you like, help make your mind up? These were just from the phone.

Thanks for the extra information. To be honest I won't have time for a while yet. I've got a Dice unit and need to feed the cables through to the front which I haven't got around to yet despite buying the proper trim removal tools months ago! Where did you get the sheet at that price? I did see a place that do samples for not very much so I would probably send off for one the same as yours and a lighter one.

I have a 2004 diesel. I'm not keen on doing the remote mod due to warranty issues but would be interested in enabling the timer function if possible. The trouble is mine does not have sat nav. I was told by the dealer that it can't be enabled on mine but whether they actually checked or not I don not know but they were enabling other things for me at the time (key memory and anti-hijack locking). Just on reading the whole thread it would seem that there might be a risk of damaging the unit in certain circumstances. However is it is simply a case of enabling it then great.

Edited to add: what colour is your wrap, black or anthracite? I'm trying to work out what would go best with the light grey interior I have and will probably order samples in anthracite, black and maybe silver (the car is silver but I'm not sure how silver CF would look). But, if yours is anthracite then I think I can discount black. Foilcenter24 is the website I've seen.

And mine from this chap:

Do like the silver but the conventional black pops enough light, so happy with it for now....

Well on with doing mine, but anybody got any suggestions as to what do with the bl**dy awful handles that open the door?. Even on my Audi they are chrome plated metal and not cheap painted plastic
