E70 40d ordered. Now the long wait...

Delivery is now locked in for next Wednesday. The long wait is almost over!
Just thinking I probably need to order a cradle for the iPhone 4. I assume it's specific to a particular phone and not included with either the mobile app prep or telephone USB interface?
Has anyone got one? Is it worth buying. I assume you get all the functionality just with cable but it doesn't look quite as neat?
Any disadvantages to the cradle?

I have the iPhone 3G. My dealer told me the cradle isn't worth getting. I believe the only functionality it adds is access to the car's mobile phone antenna, but reception has never been an issue. The main benefit as I see it is that it's neater. Having said all this, I'm waiting on the iPhone 5, and will likely get that cradle when it comes out!

I have got one of the three iphone4 cradle options.
Depending upon what your build spec is determines what you can choose. The cable will allow the phone to charge and feeds the audio & artwork via the ipod out function over cable. Phone is bluetooth with no external aerial.
Basic - charges the phone, connectes to the external sharkfin, uses Bluetooth for audio/phone - needs option 6FL and Bluetooth. Costs around £80
Advanced - as above except the audio is now fed via the USB function if you have smartphone integration and album artwork will display. Needs 6FL & 6NF and Bluetooth. Costs around £120
Multimedia - as above but adds BMS Apps and video playback from the iphone (when stationary of course). Needs option 6FL & 6NF and whatever the BMW Apps code is. Costs around £170.
I'm basing the three choices on what was needed ealier in the year. The specs have changed since, as may have the codes.
Your dealer should be able to provide you with the 'Build Sheet' listing every option you chose, te stanard obes, and any actory added options. When mine was built in October last year, the DTRL options and the new 40d codes for the X6 were introduced the same week (Week 40) so I had some added codes.

Thanks X5Sport. I managed to get the right cradle in the end from the dealer. You were right though, it seems cradle is "very" dependant on what options you have etc
Had the car two weeks now and really happy with it. I have an IT background but still discovering new features on the idrive! Must admit to having to read the manual on a couple of occasions!
Compared to my 2007 Touareg, it's a major step up. Engine is great - even though keeping revs low till I pass the 1200 mile mark.
Best toys for me has to be the adaptive cruise control and head-up display.
Not finding the ride too firm on the 20" wheels either - just hope the stone chipping issue doesn't raise its head!
