E53 D-Sport 2005 - Rear Diff Failure

Hi Leslie,
There is no repair for this diff, as there is a big hole blown out if the rear case & bits falling out AND both half shaft flanges are hanging out.
The diff is buggered.
A lot if work as been done to the rest if the vehicle & a new MOT, & lack of funds mean that a replacement vehicle is not an option right now, so it must be fixed.
Im hunting out a replacement diff, & if necessary can also replace both rear half shafts too.
At least then i can sell it on when i can afford to replace it, & running it is still worth £2000.
If i find a cheap £500 runabout, then there is also the option of breaking my X5, & I fortunately have a dry industrial unit... ideally, i want to replace the diff & run it for 6 months more.

Richard / Leslie Sirs....
I have two part numbers for the replacement diff.
The one in my vehicle part number is
Part number
7512662 3.91
but part number below is supposed to be identical - are you able to confirm yes or no ?
7524892 3.91
Are these diffs the same - 7512662 or 7512663 or 7524892

E53 2004-2006 3.0D
ref 7524892 7512662 7512663 - Ratio 3.91
are these three the same item ? as this is what I'm seeing, but need to be sure before I spend £450 on the wrong sodding part...
the one i need is 7512662 - 3.91

7512662 - Rear axle drive - ceased production 2008 and no longer available according to the 2019 parts list. No applications listed (no vehicles). I can’t find it listed in the available parts databases as it’s gone end-of-life in 2008
7512663 - Remanufactured (exchange) Rear axle drive for E53 M57N engine and 4.6 V8 M62 only. This also matches the one in my 2005 E53. Ration 3.91 with auto trans. Manuals have a different FD ratio of 3.23. 663 has two versions, pre & post 2004 with no part number change.
7524892 - Rear axle drive - ceased production and no longer available according to the 2019 parts list. No applications listed (no vehicles). I can;t find this one either as it went end-of-life in 2013.
The first and last numbers above have no record and don’t match the ‘superseded’ numbers. 663 does have two earlier numbers - but not the two you have.
You may need to talk to a main dealer to confirm what can be dropped in to match yours. They have the now on line parts bible that we can’t get at.

According to the parts database, mine would have been fitted with a 663 3.91.

Whats the point...

662 maybe ended in 2004 as thats when 663 started but your car may have been built in 2004 just registered in 2005, if the seller is saying its out of an auto diesel then it should fit fine if it looks identical , bmw changed the front flange arrangement and went to ball bearings rather than taper roller bearings for the pinion but not sure when that happened but its likely 2005/2006 era.

Another X5 bites the dust.
I cannot get the right diff under £500, & the vehicle isnt worth spending that ££ figure on for only a diff,
So im looking into what the breaking value is & how long all the hulk will be hanging around while breaking... or simply weigh it in.
