I waited about 1 1/2 hours while they were doing it - they initially said it'll take an hour to replace and then I would have to wait an hour. I was in no hurry so would have waited another half hour - perhaps they just wanted to get home. I imagine the replacement only took half an hour. The branch close to my work called me today - they are getting another screen in so that they have one if it needs replacement and will come take a look on Friday while I'm at work. If they replace it then it will have at least 4-5 hours to set while I'm in the office.
I asked about official BMW glass but apparently that's only if the car is still under dealer warranty. I'm not that bothered TBH the glass they used is exactly the same just without the BMW logo, tint is there, VIN window in the right place, rain sensor/headlights work fine. In terms of resale on a car that's almost 8 years old now it's not unreasonable to expect the windscreen to have been replaced. Not really an issue so long as it's done properly.
It could be that the adhesive hadn't bonded properly and the airflow over the windscreen when you drove maybe just upset it.
Anyway, glad they are coming out to look at it and sort it out. As you say, you can't expect an 8 year old car to be 100% original. To be honest, I haven't checked the Glass on any car I have bought!

Glad you are happy with non OEM glass - if info given accurate then it's a new policy. My 9 yr old car out of warranty had a new BMW screen fitted by Autoglass 5 months ago.

Re: Windscreen replacement
It's glass. They've re-fitted, seals are much better so I'm happy.

Nice one.
I have heard mixed things about Auto Glass but they replaced my screen on the 530d and did a good enough job.

Yeah the guy that came out seems to know his stuff much better than the guys down at the Maidstone depot. I checked the screen of another E53 down in the car park (looks like an original screen) and the seals now all sit in the same place.
