Is the original thread car with 97k about a 40d as well ? Karl how long have you had it / miles in your ownership , is it town driving or motorway ?
I notice crusing along at say 50 my revs will be like very low say 1300 rpm which is far from ideal / too low wonder if this is bad for chains ?
I believe that the 30d and 40d are the same engine just tuned differently and the 3d has one turbo while the 40d has 2 turbos

Why would low rpm be bad for a chain?
I'm thinking more vibration which smoothes out as the revs rise

Thanks Karl I guess in town the car would be idling a lot in traffic .Maybe it's extended service intervals who knows but I change mine every 10k myself but before I got it the services were 15k plus !

With my X6 being a similar age and only doing low miles each year, I’m going to start changing the oil more frequently. It’s currently every 18,000 miles or two years and hits the time limit first. It may be under warranty, but an oil change is cheaper than the excess!
